Bill Skarsgård’s Biography

He was born with the acting gene flowing in his veins when he popped up in the family of actor Stellan Skarsgård and physician, My Sonja Marie Agnes on the 9th of August, 1990. His name at birth was Bill Istvan Günther Skarsgård and his first contact with earth was in Vällingby, Stockholm, Sweden.

His father, Stellan, had over a dozen kids, howbeit, from two marriages. Skarsgård has seven siblings, including half-siblings; three of his older brothers , Gustaf, and Valter are all actors. His other biological siblings are Sam and Eija Skarsgård (sister). On the other hand, his half-siblings (from his father’s second marriage) are Ossian and Kolbjörn Skarsgård.

Although nothing is known about his education except that he majored in science, young Skarsgård was constantly on the road with his father as the latter went from set to set in the prime of his acting career. He has lived in Mexico, Cambodia, etc and his interaction with several culture climes broadened his views about life and sharpened his mind also to better understand human relations and interactions.

Apart from the above, going to several filming sets with his father did two things for Bill Skarsgård. First, it enabled him to get familiar with some of the big guns in the industry which helped in jumpstarting his own acting career. Career

As mentioned earlier, Bill Skarsgård’s career in acting began with a role in the 2000 Swedish thriller titled Järngänget. He was only 10 years old at the time and he starred with his older brother Alexander. Interestingly, he was the younger brother of his brother’s character in the movie. After his first movie role, Bill would wait until he was 18 to land another major role. While he waited, he appeared in a couple of short Swedish films – Spending the Night and Pigan Brinner – and the TV miniseries Laura Trenter – Dad, the Policeman.

He was featured in Arn – The Kingdom at Road’s End in 2008, alongside his dad and older brother, Gustaf Skarsgård. In 2010, he would play the lead roles in Behind Blue Skies as Martin and also feature in the romance dramedy Simple Simon as Simon. His performance in the latter earned him a nomination for the “Guldbagge Award”. Another main role stint was in The Crown Jewels in 2011 where he starred alongside popular Swedish actress, Alicia Vikander.

Bill Skarsgård started gaining positive reviews and roles when the foreign films came calling. His first was in Anna Karenina (2012) where he played the character of Captian Machouten. The next year, he also landed a role in American horror series Hemlock Grove where his portrayal of Roman Godfrey, a vampire who is also half human, made sure he booked his spot in the popularity rankings.

In 2016, he played the character of Matthew in the science fiction movie series The Divergent Series: Allegiant, Atomic Blonde, Alteration, It, and Battlecreek all followed in 2017. His other works include Deadpool 2, Assassination Nation, and It 2.

Bill Skarsgård comes from a pretty large family made up of a father, mother, step-mother, six brothers and a sister. His father, Stellan Skarsgård was a Swedish actor and his mother, My Sonja Marie Agnes, was a physician. His step-mother is Megan Everett and she is the mother of Ossian and Kolbjörn, his last two brothers while his biological siblings are: Alexander, Gustaf, Sam, Valter, and Eija.

As mentioned before, three of his older brothers also followed their father’s footsteps into the world of make-believe and are celebrated actors in their own rights. Alexander Skarsgård is known for his roles in Zoolander, True Blood, The Legend of Tarzan, etc. Gustaf Skarsgård, who began acting at the age of nine, is known for the roles in the TV series Vikings and the 2010 film The Way Back.
