Willie was born in the year 1933, precisely in on the 29th day of April, that would make him over 80 years old as of the time of this writing. He was born in the town of Abbott in Texas to parents named Myrle Marie (née Greenhaw) and Ira Doyle Nelson but would become a product of a broken home. The first to leave was his mother and later his mechanic father who left to marry another woman, leaving Nelson and his siblings which at the time included his sister Bobbie to the care of his grandparents.

Nelson would probably not have a career in music if not for his musically-inclined grandparents who bought and taught him to play his first guitar. He was just seven years old at the time. Two years later, at the age of 9, he’d developed on his skills enough to earn him a berth on a local rock band called the Bohemian Polka.
