Kyle MacLachlan was born as Kyle Merritt MacLachlan on February 22, 1959, in Yakima, Washington, into the family of Catherine (née Stone) and Kent Alan MacLachlan. He is the eldest of the family’s three sons and grew up along with his younger brothers, Craig and Kent Jr. who now live in Seattle.
His mother introduced him to stage acting at a young age and also enrolled him for piano lessons when he was nine years old where he was taught Classical singing. MacLachlan attended Eisenhower High School (now known as Dwight David Eisenhower High School), Yakima where he participated in plays and class musicals, acting in his first play at age 15. By the time he reached senior year in 1977, he was able to play lead roles.
After High School, MacLachlan proceeded to the University of Washington to study Classical Voice before switching his major to drama. In 1982, he graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the university. Following his graduation from college, he made his first-ever on-screen appearance in his long-term friend, David Lynch’s, 1984 film, , as Paul Atreides. He also starred in Lynch’s Blue Velvet in 1996 as Jeffrey Beaumont and as Lloyd Gallagher in The Hidden (1987).
The 1990s opened with MacLachlan playing Special Agent Dale Cooper in Twin Peaks, an American mystery TV series that was created by Lynch and Mark Frost for ABC Television network. The series ran between 1990 and 1991. A prequel to this series, Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me, was released in 1992 with MacLachlan reprising his role as Dale Cooper. The first season of the series was well-received with a significant fan base in the 90s hence, making its star, MacLachlan, popular but unfortunately, the ratings declined in the second season and the show had to be canceled.
After 25 years, several accolades, film and television credits, MacLachlan got a chance to star in the third season of the TV show – Twin Peaks that cemented his place in the limelight. The third season which aired on Showtime was titled Twin Peaks: The Return, co-written and directed by David Lynch and starred many other members of the original cast. 1. His Parents Got Divorced When He Was Still In High School
MacLachlan was in his senior year in high school when his parents parted ways for good. His mother, a school district’s public relations director, and homemaker left his father, a stockbroker, and attorney, when he [Kyle] was 17 and the couple finalized their divorce in 1977. His mom later died of ovarian cancer in 1986 after battling the disease for three years while his father died in 2011 of complications from surgery.
2. He Dated Some Of His Co-Stars
MacLachlan dated Laura Dern, his Blue Velvet co-star from 1985 to 1989. After their relationship ended, he moved on to Lara Flynn Boyle, his Twin Peaks co-star and the two became an item for the next two and half years. In 1992, after Boyle, he began dating one of the 90s top supermodels, Linda Evangelista and the two were even engaged for a few years before they parted ways in 1998.
3. He Met His Wife In 1999
The actor met Desiree Gruber in 1999, she was just a publicist at the time and they started a relationship in the same year. They dated for three years before officially tying the knot on April 20, 2002. The couple had their son, Callum Lyon MacLachlan in Los Angeles in 2008.

MacLachlan and his brothers have German, Cornish and Scottish ancestors and the actor once said that this could be an explanation for his love for fatty food, forests, and the sea.
