Samantha Bee has received much critical acclaim in her career as a comedian, writer, political commentator and TV host. The Canadian-American TV correspondent came into the limelight as a regular correspondent on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, where she served for a record 12 years.

Following her exit from The Daily Show in 2015, the multitalented media personality went on to pursue her own show Full Frontal with Samantha Bee. There could have been no better time for the launch of the show than its February 8, 2016, debut, leading up to the highly heated 2016 US presidential election. Being no stranger to the US political terrain, Samantha Bee promptly joined in on the conversation taking on the political establishment in the most brutal and candid manner under the shield of witty humour.

Full Frontal with Samantha Bee was a big hit among viewers and critics as it was nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award in its first season. The show also received 4 Emmy nominations in 2017 including a win for its “Not the White House Correspondents’ Dinner” episode.

Samantha Bee Bio

Samantha Jamie Bee was born on October 25, 1969, in Ontario, Canada to Debra and Ronald Bee. Her parents’ marriage broke up after she was born signalling the beginning of an unconventional childhood for her.

She was raised by her grandmother and also split some of her time between her parents’ homes. The young Bee had her high school education at Humberside Collegiate Institute and York Memorial Collegiate Institute.

After her college education at George Brown Theatre School in Toronto, the comedienne formed an all-women sketch-comedy troupe known as “The Atomic Fireballs”. Bee performed with the group without pay for some time while working as a waitress to pay her bills. Even though she didn’t earn money while performing with the group, it provided her with all the training she needed to take up the spot on The Daily Show when the time came.

Samantha Bee is married to Canadian actor and producer Jason Jones. The two met way back in 1996 as members of a theatre troupe during a stage production. They tied the knot on October 3, 2001, and their union has remained unshaken ever since. They have 3 children together, 2 daughters and a son.

The couple welcomed their first child, a daughter named Piper Bee-Jones in January 2006. They welcomed their second, a son named Fletcher Bee-Jones on June 20, 2008. In October 2010, they welcomed their third child, a daughter named Ripley Bee-Jones.

Seeing that the couple met while working, it comes as no surprise that they have continued to collaborate on several other projects. Like his wife, Jason Jones joined The Daily Show as a freelance correspondent in 2005. The couple co-hosted an episode of The Daily Show on October 7, 2014, in the absence of the then host .

In 2016, Samantha and Jason co-created the sitcom The Detour which premiered on TBS on April 11, 2016. Jason Jones is equally an executive producer on his wife’s Emmy-nominated political satire show Full Frontal with Samantha Bee.

Samantha Bee’s highly successful stint on The Daily Show had her win multiple awards and in addition to that, she created a lot of history. She became the first female correspondent on The Daily Show when she joined the show in 2003. She remained the only lady on The Daily Show line up till 2008 when Kristen Schaal joined the show.

The talented comedienne became the longest-running correspondent on the series in 2011 after surpassing the record previously set by (1997-2005).

Bee was also the first non-US correspondent on the show. She became naturalized as a US citizen in 2014, 11 years after joining the team of correspondents on The Daily Show.

After leaving The Daily Show, Samantha Bee remained unstoppable and has continued to set trends and shatter glass ceilings. When Full Frontal with Samantha Bee debuted in 2016, Samantha Bee was the only female host in the male-dominated world of late-night political satire show.

The comedienne has also brought on some level of diversity in the world of late-night talk shows. Fifty percent of her Full Frontal writing staff are women while thirty percent are people of colour, making the show one of the most diverse in late-night television.

In 2017 Samantha Bee was named among the 100 most influential people in the world by TIME magazine.
