Gase played in a football team only in his high school days and even then, as his high school coach and teammates , he was an average player at best. Yet, he became the head coach of NFL teams. How did he pull this off and what are his achievements thereof; compared with his family life, the relationship with his wife and kid? Read on for the answers to these and other related questions.

How Adam Gase Became a Coach

Born on the 29th of March 1978 in Ypsi Michigan where he was also raised, Adam Gase became interested in the game of football during his high school days at Marshall High School, Michigan. He eventually moved on to Michigan State for his college education.

Although he never made it into the college football team, his interest in the game was indulged in other ways. For example, he took up the pro bono job of providing relevant football statistics to the college football office, which endeared him to the coaches.

The official start to Gase’s coaching career can be traced to 1996 while he was still a college undergraduate. He first worked as an assistant to the college’s coaching staff. After serving in this position for about four years, he moved to Louisiana State, where he took up the two-fold job of a graduate assistant and a recruiting assistant for the college football team, Fighting Tigers. He distinguished himself in that position, helping the team to win the SEC championship in 2001.

Highlights of His NFL Coaching Career

It was with the Detroit Lions that Adam Gase’s professional career took off in earnest in 2003. He was hired by the Lions’ head coach Steve Mariucci as a scouting and offensive assistant for the 2005 season. After a splendid performance in that season, Gase got a promotion to work as the team’s offensive quality control coach for the next season.

He got yet another promotion in the 2007 season as Lion’s quarterbacks’ coach. This time, his performance was enough to attract the attention of the San Francisco 49ers’ head coach Mike Martz, who hired him as the offensive assistant of his team.

At the time, Adam became well-known and was in high demand among NFL teams. Thus, he moved to Denver Broncos after his 2008 season with the 49ers. Again, he repeated his sterling performances with the AFC West team, pulling off a record-breaking passing season. He joined the Chicago Bears after the 2014 NFL season. Under his watch, the Bears recorded 5,514 total net yards, 344.6 per game, and ended up finishing on the 18th slot in the overall offense chart.

Adam Gase’s Emergence as a Head Coach

In January 2016, Adam Gase became a head coach for the first time; he was hired to man the Miami Dolphins. Unfortunately, his first time as a head coach wasn’t quite as impressive as the years he served as an assistant.

Dolphins had a poor start to the season with a 1-4 record but they made it up by winning their next six games. They crowned it with a 10-16 record which got the team its first playoff after 8 years. However, they lost 30–12 to the Pittsburgh Steelers in the Wild Card round.

His contract with Dolphins ended in 2018 and from the 2019 season, he was hired as the head coach for New York Jets. This job took off in January but in May, circumstances forced him to also get involved in the executive quarters of the team by doubling as the interim general manager after Mike Maccagnan was fired. However, he was soon relieved of the executive job when Joe Douglas was hired to fill the position.

His Salary and Net Worth

We are not privy to the details of his contract with the football teams he has coached. But then, reports have it that Adam Gase enjoys a growing net worth of $4 million.
