Starring as Ranchhoddas “Rancho” Shamaldas Chanchad/Phunsukh Wangdu, Khan had one of his most tasking outings in 3 Idiots but as usual, he didn’t disappoint. He brought in his expertise and other needed skills, which in the long run, helped him to convincingly deliver his role.
The film stands out as one of the best films Aamir has starred in and for so many reasons, it deserves the number one spot. It holds the record as one of the highest-grossing Indian films. It is the first Bollywood film to be released on YouTube, the 10th highest-grossing Bollywood film in overseas markets, and one of the films that helped to push Khan’s career to the frontline.
The film’s ability to significantly concentrate on societal issues remains one of the reasons the project was well received and accepted by film critics and the movie-viewing communities across the world. The movie also teaches people that they can achieve their goal if they could learn by heart and remain focused.
Both commercially and critically, the film is a huge success. It is highly rated on film review sites like Rotten Tomatoes (100%) and grossed a whopping 4.6 billion Indian Rupee from a budget of 550 million Indian Rupee. For his role in the film, Aamir earned a nomination for Best Actor at Filmfare Award.
Ghajini (2008)
Ghajini is a thriller film that is adapted from the American neo-noir psychological film Memento. Starring notable stars like Vaibhav Mathur as Struggling Ad-Model, Asin, Jiah Khan, Sanjay Singhania, Khan portrayed a rich businessman (Sanjay Sing) who was brutally attacked and later suffered from short term memory loss. Although the film received an average rating as well as positive and negative comments, it holds the record as one of the highest-grossing Indian films.
The great comedy/action/romance movie made 2.32 billion Indian Rupee from a budget of 500 million INR and also earned Khan a nomination for Best Actor at Filmfare Award.
Raja Hindustani (1996)
Yet another amazing beautiful project starring Aamir Khan as a major character, Raja Hindustani is considered one of the best films the actor has had a role in. The film tells the story of a taxi driver (Aamir) who fell in love with a girl from a rich family.
Also starring Karisma Kapoor and Suresh Oberoi, Raja Hindustani is a commercial success – thanks to the ensemble cast and their stellar performance, fantastic direction, and other elements. The film is directed by Dharmesh Darshan and thrived very well at the box office. For playing Raja Hindustani in the film, Khan won a Screen Award for Best Actor and Filmfare Award for Best Actor.
Lagaan (2001)
Lagaan ranks among the top 10 high-grossing Indian movies internationally. Like the three films mentioned above, this film is available on Netflix. It is a romantic, emotional, and inspiring movie that follows a boastful British commander who dares the harshly taxed locals living in Champaner to a high-stakes cricket competition.
The film is the seventh-longest movie in India and one of Bollywood’s best ever projects, having won an Oscar nomination in 2002 for Best Foreign Language Film as well as a nomination for Best Non-European Film at European Film Award. The film has also earned several awards on the international scene, including at the Locarno International Film Festival, the Bergen International Film Festival, the Portland International Film Festival, the NatFilm Festival, and the Leeds International Film Festival.
For a brilliant performance in the film, Aamir received an award for Best Actor at Filmfare Award while the film won the best film award at the same occasion. Lagaan is both a huge critical and commercial success.
Dangal (2016)
Dangal is a biographical Bollywood movie that tells the story of a once-promising wrestler who did his best to train his daughters to take part in the Commonwealth Games in order to win the gold medal he never won. The film is one of the best films Khan has ever featured in. It is available on Netflix and has won several awards for both itself and the actor.
Critical-wise, Dangal performed very well in India and China while its official trailer even recorded more than 60 million views on YouTube. The masterpiece did not disappoint at the box office as it even out-beat the record held by the 2013 drama/fantasy film PK for the highest-grossing Bollywood film.
At Australia’s 7th AACTA Awards, Khan received the inaugural Best Asian Film Award for Dangal while the film was nominated for the 68th Berlin International Film Festival as well as the Movie of the Year. Aamir starred as Mahavir Singh Phogat alongside Fatima Sana Shaikh, Sanya Malhotra, Sakshi Tanwar, Aparshakti Khurana, Zaira Wasim, Suhani Bhatnagar, and other stars.
Mela (2000)
Mela, which featured Khan and his biological younger brother Faisal Khan is widely adjudged as one of the worst Aamir Khan movies. Most critics had issues with the film’s music, acting skills, screenplay, plot, and direction. The 2000 project was a huge flop both at the box office and on film review sites that year.
Tum Mere Ho (1990)
Produced and directed by Tahir Hussain, Tum Mere Ho follows Shiva (Aamir Khan) who fell in love with a girl (Juhi Chawla) from the neighboring village. Juhi’s father disliked his daughter’s relationship Shiva with and his magical snake-charming powers and even tried to kill but his daughter found her man attractive as well. Although Aamir starred as a major character in the film, Tum Mere Ho remains one of his not-so-spectacular-movies for a slew of shortcomings in messages passed across and other elements.
Talking about his roles in television shows, Aamir Khan has only four credited roles in television. From 2012 to 2014, he played the host of the television show Satyamev Jayate. In 2012, he appeared as Surjan Singh Shekhawat in an episode of C.I.D and as a narrator in the television film Rubaru Roshni. Since 2017, he has been guest-starring in the project Toofan Alaya, which he created himself.
Satyamev Jayate (2012-2014)
Aamir Khan featured as the host of Satyamev Jayate while the TV talk show itself is a critical success; it is highly rated on review sites and among TV buffs. In 2013, Satyamev Jayate earned him an Inaugural America Abroad Media Award, which proves that his role as a host on the show was well-appreciated.
At the time of this writing, C.I.D, Toofan Alaya, and Rubaru Roshni are yet to be ranked on by the appropriate review websites. Going by audience reviews, the three aren’t totally a disaster even though some viewers didn’t consider them quite superlative. In addition, none of them earned Aamir any nomination or award and sadly, information on how they thrived in the competitive market is yet to be unveiled.
