During her fighting career, she has gone by many names – Angelica, Lita, Miss Congeniality. But one thing is sure, Amy Dumas is one of the most decorated female wrestlers in the history of the WWE and beyond. This is to be expected if you are a four-time winner of the WWE Women’s Championship. Dumas hung her gloves from full-time wrestling in 2006 after having fought for six years in the WWE and many independent wrestling promotions before that.
Inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2014, Dumas has continued to make part appearances with WWE. She is also currently a member of The Luchagors, a punk rock band that she put together immediately after her retirement in 2006.
Amy Dumas’ Bio
Born in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida on April 14, 1975, Amy Christine Dumas finished high school at Lassiter High School and moved on to Georgia State University briefly before dropping out in 1993. She moved to Washington D.C where she played the bass guitar for a few bands and worked as part of the support staff for a band.
She made the decision to become a professional wrestler after watching Rey Mysterio Jr. fight at the World Championship Wrestling (WCW). In 1998, she started learning to wrestle under the likes of Ricky Santana and Kevin Quinn. After her training was complete, she wrestled in various independent and lower tier wrestling promotions. Some of them include Maryland Championship Wrestling (MCW), and NWA Mid-Atlantic, the former being where she met the would be WWE superstar brothers, and .
After joining Extreme Championship Wrestling in 1999, she trained under Dory Funk, Jr. and was the only female student in his class at the time. After being impressed by her wrestling style, courtesy of a video footage sent over by Dory, the WWF came calling and signed her to a developmental contract in November 1999.
This contract was followed up sometime later by Memphis Championship Wrestling (MCW) where Amy, now known by the stage name Lita was paired up with Essa Rios. Following their WWE debut in February 2000, Lita and Rios feuded with the likes of Eddie Guerrero and Chyna. After the breakup of their team, she teamed up with the Hardy Boyz to form the stable called Team Extreme.
She also had rivalries with Trish Stratus, Ivory, Edge, Christian, and Stephanie McMahon-Helmsley, the latter whom she defeated to clinch her first ever Women’s Championship title. In 2001, Matt and Jeff Hardy started a feud which drew in Lita and led to the breaking up of Team Extreme. They came back together, however, before the year ran out.
After a horrific spinal injury sustained during the filming of the television series Dark Angel, Amy Dumas underwent surgery and spent over a year on the sidelines recovering. She returned in October 2002 as a commentator and then in September 2003 as a wrestler. Amy Dumas won her second Women’s Championship against Trish Stratus on December 6, 2004.
The following year, Dumas, who was in a real-life relationship with Matt Hardy had a fling with Edge. It wasn’t long before WWE scripted their love triangle into their on-screen storyline. This storyline pit both men against each other, culminating in the WWE terminating Matt’s contract with Raw. Amy Dumas made it three with her third Champions title when she defeated on August 14, 2006, but lost it to Trish Status who won the title in her last professional fight. Upon retirement, the title was vacated and Dumas again fought her way to the title on November 5, 2006. Two weeks later, she announced her retirement match, a bout which she lost to Mickie James.
After leaving WWE, Amy Dumas continued to appear on several independent wrestling promotions as a wrestler and a referee. She has also shown up on some WWE specials since 2007. The wrestler from Florida was finally rewarded for her contributions to the sport in 2014 when she was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame. Her induction was performed by her friend and fellow Hall-of-Famer Trish Stratus.

Sometimes it is difficult to tell a wrestler’s on-screen and off-screen life apart. However, whatever the case, the former wrestler has dated her share of men, all of them within the same profession.
Her first and longest relationship was with Matt Hardy whom she met in 1999. They were more or less together for six years, culminating in 2005. Amy talked about the bitter end of her relationship with Matt in this . Next, she dated or at least had a short-lived fling with pro-wrestler Edge; this didn’t last long at all as it ended without an explanation in 2006 immediately following her retirement from the WWE. After dating Shane Morton, a member of her Luchagors band in 2008, she moved on with CM Punk the following year. They finally broke up in 2013.
The wrestler has been on her own and pursuing her own dreams ever since her time with CM Punk came to an end. She is not married and does not have any children either.
Where is She Now?
Since her time at the WWE, Dumas has managed to keep herself busy. Apart from bit-part appearances on the WWE and other promotions, she has also worked as an analyst at the promotion and also as a trainer for younger budding wrestlers. She also briefly served in the capacity of creative writer and backstage producer for the WWE. Amy fulfilled this role from October 2015 through to July 2016.
Dumas has also made time for some music in her life. Following her retirement in 2006, she formed The Luchagors, they even have a CD to their name which was released in 2007. It is eponymously titled The Luchagors.
The wrestler has also been on several television shows besides Dark Angel. She has shown up on Fear Factor, The Weakest Link’s “WWF Superstars Edition”, and Headbangers Ball. Her autobiography, Lita: A Less Traveled R.O.A.D. – The Reality of Amy Dumas, was released in September 2003 and she has her own radio show, Amy’s Discordia, which she started hosting in 2013. Dumas is a playable character on more than 15 WWE video games.
