As a teenager, Anderson Paak was already producing music from the comfort of his bedroom, notwithstanding the hardship that surrounded his younger days. He grew up with an abusive father and once witnessed him beating the daylight out of his mother after which he went to jail and never returned alive. Admittedly, growing up was tumultuous for Paak but he didn’t let his dark days define his future.
Before he became an American rapper, songwriter, drummer, singer and record producer, Anderson Paak worked at a marijuana farm in Santa Barbara in a bid to provide for his family. Ironically, the misfortune of losing his job at the farm and becoming homeless with his wife and their baby boy, changed his story as he was able to focus more on his music. Subsequently, he gradually built an acclaimed solo music career and also formed the one-half of the duo known as NxWorries, together with record producer Knxwledge.
Anderson Paak’s Biography
The musician who is a mixture of African-American and Korean was born on February 8, 1986, in Oxnard, California. His childhood was a tough one and he had to watch his abusive father taking it out on his helpless mother. According to Paak, the last time he saw his father alive, he was on top of his mother, beating and spilling her blood on the street after which he was arrested and did about 14 years behind bars before his death.
While he was still at Foothill Technology High School, Paak started producing music and he did all the work from his bedroom. In order to make ends meet, he had to take up a job at a marijuana farm in Santa Barbara and shortly after, he was fired without prior warning in 2011, thus, he was left homeless with his wife and little son.
After losing his job at the farm, Paak diverted his energy to music, working on his first album. He got financial relief from Shafiq Husayn of Sa-Ra gave him a job as an assistant, videographer, editor, writer, and producer. In the middle of 2012, Paak dropped his debut album – O.B.E. Vol.1 under the moniker Breezy Lovejoy. He later released another album on October 28, 2014, titled Venice, using his current stage name.
Anderson Paak was already gaining acceptance in the music world and collaborated with top musicians many times. He worked with Dr. Dre on his 2015 album – Compton where he performed six songs and also chipped in on The Game’s The Documentary 2. He also worked with ScHoolboy Q and 9th Wonder the same year and in January 2015, his sophomore album – Malibu was released to positive reviews. The album received a nomination at the Grammys.
In January 2016, Paak took to Twitter to announce he has signed to Dr. Dre’s Aftermath Entertainment. He bagged two 2017 Grammys for Best New Artist and Best Urban Contemporary Album.
Over time, Anderson Paak has recorded tremendous success in his music career, working with the creme de la creme in the industry. Til It’s Over which featured in a new TV commercial released by Apple Inc for the promotion of its HomePod smart speaker in 2018 is one of Paak’s latest singles.

Anderson Paak grew up as a child of mixed-race parents whose mom was a victim of his abusive father. Notably, his mother is Korean while his father is an African-American.
During his days of performing as a drummer at his family’s church, Anderson Paak met and married his first wife but the union ended in divorce. He was in his early twenties when he went into his first marriage after which he met his second wife while teaching at a music school. She was a music student from South Korea.
Paak doesn’t flaunt the identity of his wife in public, thus, not much is known about her. However, we do know that they share a son named Soul Rasheed.
