Andreas Pereira is a Belgian-born Brazilian professional footballer who plays for the English Premiership club Manchester United. The Denzil Haroun Reserve Team Player of the Year for the 2014 -15 season has also spent time in Spain playing for clubs like Granada and Valencia in search of first-team football.
Bio
Pereira, whose full name is Andreas Hugo Hoelgebaum Pereira, was born to Brazilian parents in Duffel, Belgium, on the 1st of January, 1996. As a child of a former footballer, Pereira was destined to play the beautiful game which he started doing at a very young age. He first played for his hometown club, Lommel United, before moving to the Netherlands at the age of 9 to join the youth ranks of PSV Eindhoven.
Andreas Pereira progressed through the youth teams at the club and in 2011, he was in the side that stole the show at the Manchester United Premier Cup; a global youth football tournament sponsored by Nike. He along with many other players on the side got the attention of the big English clubs but it was, however, Man Utd manager Sir Alex Ferguson who convinced him and his parents to sign with the club.
The following year, after Pereira turned 16 and was now eligible for an international transfer, he officially joined the Red Devils although he was still unable to feature for the side for a few months due to complications in his international clearance. All the paperwork was eventually sorted out in April 2012, allowing him to play his first game for his new side on April 25, 2012, in an under-18s league match. In his first full season with United, the 2012 –13 campaign, Pereira was a mainstay in the under-18s team, making 20 appearances and scoring five goals along the way. His performances earned him call-ups to the reserve team but most significantly, his first professional contract.
For the 2013 -14 season, Andreas Pereira was used by both the coaches of the under-18s and the under-21s sides. He also played in the inaugural UEFA Youth League and the FA Youth Cup where he put on some notable performances. It was now inevitable that the young Brazilian was going to get his first team debut which came in the second round of the League Cup in the 2014 -15 season. A few months after that, on the 15th of March, 2015, he made his Premier League debut as a substitute in a game against Tottenham Hotspur. Just before the end of that season, Pereira was rewarded with a brand new contract and was further voted as his club’s under-21 player of the year for the 2014 –15 season.
For the 2015 -16 season, Pereira was loaned out to Spanish side Granada to get some much needed first team action. In the season, he made a total of 37 appearances, scoring 5 goals. He spent the next season in Valencia on loan again where he made a total of 29 appearances and only managed 1 goal. He is now currently back with his parent team where he will be looking to forge a partnership with and in order to stay in contention for a place in the team.
Andreas Pereira’s Family and Parents
As vaguely discussed above, Andreas Pereira was born to Brazilian parents who lived in Belgium. Some reports say that his mother, Anaida Pereira, is Belgian, and of German descent but either way, not much is known about her other than the fact that she now lives in Manchester to stay close to her boy.
On the other hand, his father Marcos Antônio Pereira who was born on the 2nd of April, 1975, is a retired professional footballer who spent most of his playing career in Belgium. He played for clubs like K.V. Mechelen, K. Sint-Truidense V.V., and Royal Antwerp. After calling time on his playing career, he worked as an assistant coach at Overpeltse VV, the last team he played for before hanging up his boots.
In addition to the genes, Pereira’s parental origin has afforded him the choice of either playing for the Brazilian national team or that of Belgium. Athe time of this report, the player, who has played for both countries in the youth level, is said to have been given an opportunity to play for the Belgium senior team but is, however, holding out for an invitation from Brazil because that is where his heart lies.
