Since the ABA-NBA merger, only two No. 1 draft picks have ever been traded, even before they played a single game and they are Chris Webber in 1993 and Andrew Wiggins. The latter is a Canadian basketball player who plays in the NBA for the Minnesota Timberwolves. Since his years as a teenager, he has always caught the attention of scouts, something he sustained until he made the 2014 NBA draft.
Andrew Wiggins Biography, Age
The NBA star was born Andrew Christian Wiggins on February 23, 1995, in Canada, Toronto, Ontario. In was there that he was brought up alongside two brothers and three sisters. Raised in a family with athletic parents, Andrew got drawn into sports when he was just a little kid. By the time he was 9, he had already started competitive basketball, thanks to a good height of 5 feet 7 inches.
While his father is an American, his mother is from Barbados but was brought up mainly in Canada.
He got his education from the Vaughan Secondary School before transferring to Huntington Prep School in Huntington. Prior to his decision to attend Kansas State, he had the option of going to other colleges including Florida State, Kentucky, and North Carolina.
With an excellent college career, he announced his availability for the 2014 NBA Draft. As expected, he made it as the first pick of the draft after he was selected by the Cleveland Cavaliers. With that, he became only the second Canadian basketballer to be the first pick in the NBA draft after Anthony Bennett.
Andrew Wiggins was later traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves alongside Bennett and Thaddeus Young for . He made his NBA debut recording 6 points, 3 rebounds, 2 steals and 1 assist in 18 minutes in a game that ended in a loss against the Memphis Grizzlies.
Playing for the team since then, he was named the NBA Rookie of the Year in 2015 when he also made the NBA All-Rookie First Team, and NBA Rising Stars Challenge MVP.
Before making his professional start in the NBA, his best year was 2013 when he was named MR. Basketball USA, Gatorade National Player of the Year, Naismith Prep Player of the Year, and made the McDonald’s All-American and the First-team Parade All-American.
Wiggins also played for the Canada Men’s basketball team. He was first invited to the team in 2010 to the FIBA World U17 Cup which ended with the team taking the Bronze Medal. The team would also win the same medal at the FIBA Americas U18 Championship in 2012 and FIBA AmeriCup in 2015.

As stated earlier, Andrew Wiggins came from an athletic family with a father, Mitchell Wiggins, who played in the NBA for teams such as Chicago Bulls and Houston Rockets. His mother, Marita Payne-Wiggins, was a track and field athlete who held the Canadian record in the 200 meters and still co-holds Canadian record in the 400 meters.
Interestingly, Andrew is not the only member of his family who plays basketball. His older brother, Nick Wiggins also plays and was even signed to Timberwolves before he was waived. Before then, Nick played for the Wichita State University and after he went undrafted at the 2014 NBA draft, he moved on to play in the National Basketball League of Canada (NBL) for the Orangeville A.
His oldest brother, Mitchell Jr. also loves and plays basketball. In his days at the Southeastern University, he was described as the best basketball player.

Off the court of play, the Minnesota Timberwolves forward is also having things work well for him, especially in his relationship, He has been in a relationship with Mychal Johnson since 2013. In the second half of 2018, it was reported that the basketballer and his girlfriend were not just expecting a child, but were also engaged and may soon be walking down the aisle.
Apart from Mychal Johnson, Andrew Wiggins has also been linked to Alex Reid before the two ended the relationship. She is a singer and a songwriter.
