Biography
Before popular opinions on him were split between adoration and hate, Anthony Cumia was just a lowly blue collar worker who went about fixing the petty structural problems of New York homes. Despite dropping out of high school and never attending college, he was a man with a dream to become a radio personality. So when Gregg ‘Opie’ Hughes’ announced an O.J Simpson song parody contest, Anthony saw it as a way to live a part of his dream, hear his voice on the radio.
Anthony went to work with his brother Joe and submitted what became one of the winning songs in the contest. He, along with his brother, was invited to the show. Gregg, who fell in love with the brothers’ work, wanted more from the source and in no time, Anthony was producing comedy skits for Gregg. Both parties, realizing how well they work together and their chemistry, decided in 1995 to start a show together.
Anthony Cumia and Opie Hughes became quite the effective but problematic pair. Despite their obvious ability to host a show that commands a lot of listeners, their on-air behavior was a never-ending source of trouble for the duo. Their first show, which launched in March 1995, got canceled over a terrible prank that had their listeners thinking the Boston Mayor had been killed in a car accident.
Despite their problematic nature, they were attracting great ratings and kept getting fresh chances. With each new chance, their show grew bigger, hitting 17 stations nationwide in 2002 after they were signed on by another station, WNEW radio in New York. At this point, the pair had Jim Norton on the show, in an effort to control their excesses. It, however, wasn’t very effective as Anthony Cumia and Opie Hughes had their show canceled and barred from work for two years after another controversial stunt.
However, shortly after, the pair were back on the radio again, this time on satellite radio. The pair ran an 8-year uninterrupted show from April 2006 to July 2014 when Anthony Cumia’s controversial nature manifested in a series of racist tweets. He was subsequently fired from the show. He has managed to still find a way to live his dream of being a radio personality. He, along with Artie Lange, currently hosts a show titled The Artie and Anthony Show.
Wife & Girlfriend
Anthony met a lady named Jennifer, who would end up being his wife in 1987. Jennifer who was dating Joseph, Anthony Cumia’s brother, began dating Anthony in 1989 after she broke up with Joe and the two got married after seven months. In March 2002, the couple got divorced.
Anthony later dated Jill Nicolini in 2008 and model Melissa Stetten in 2012. Anthony’s string of controversial and bad behavior did not stop on his shows. On December 19, 2015, he got in an argument with his girlfriend, Danielle Brand and it got violent. He was arrested and released without bail on December 21.
Having previously denied the allegations of the arrest, it was revealed on June 2016 that he pled guilty to third-degree assault and criminal obstruction of breathing in a plea deal. All indications currently suggest that Anthony Cumia is single.
