Barry Gibb is a legendary British pop music singer who is best known as a member of one of the world’s greatest record selling and award-winning groups, the Bee Gees, which consists of him and his younger brothers; Robin and Maurice.
Gibb, who was recognized by as a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) for his contributions to music and entertainment in 2002 before he later received a knighthood in 2018, was well known for his high-pitched vocals. However, he is more revered for his outstanding songwriting ability as he is widely considered the best and most successful in the business alongside Beatles members, John Lennon, and Paul McCartney.

Barry Gibb was born Barry Alan Crompton Gibb on the 1st of September 1946 in Douglas, Isle of Man. His father, Hugh Gibb, was a musician, while his mother, Barbara Gibb (nee Pass), was a homemaker. He is of English, Scottish, and Irish ancestry.
At around the age of 9, following the influence of his father, Gibb began playing the guitar while his younger twin brothers, Robin and Maurice, and a number of other friends contributed with vocals. Their group, which they called The Rattlesnakes, covered songs by popularly artists of that era and were able to land their first show on the 28th of December 1957. A year later, after the Gibb family moved homes, the brothers changed their name to Wee Johnny Hayes and the Blue Cats.
The band later changed its name to the Bee Gees in 1958 when the family moved to Australia. Here, they performed at various locations including hotels, clubs, and speedways to make money. Barry Gibb later quit school in 1961 to focus on his music and was able to land a deal with Australian Record Company, Festival Records. The group released a number of songs and also wrote for other top artists in the country before returning to England in 1967 where they met and signed with Robert Stigwood and the rest, as they say, is history.

The pair were said to have met during the taping of the BBC show, Top of the Pops, in London before almost immediately getting married on the 1st of September, 1970, on Gibb’s 24th birthday, which also happened to be just three months after he and his first wife got a divorce. His first marriage happened at the young age of 19 when Gibb exchanged vows with Maureen Bates but the marriage only lasted for four years.
Gibb revealed that Linda Gray, who was just 17 years old as at the time they met, was the most beautiful woman he had ever come across. He said he faced stiff competition from people like Steve McQueen who tried to run away with her on his motorbike but for some reason, she chose to remain with him. Barry and Linda have now been together for almost a half a decade, during which they welcomed five children; Stephen, who was born in 1973, Ashley who was born in 1977, and then Travis who was born in 1981. The last two are Michael who was born in 1984 and Alexandra who they welcomed seven years later in 1991.
The couple’s firstborn son, Stephen, popularly called Steven, followed in his father’s footsteps to become a musician. He has been a member of a number of hard rock and metal bands such as 58, Crowbar, Kingdom of Sorrow, Black Label Society, and Saigon Kick.
