Bartolo Colon Bio

Bartolo Colon was born on the 24th of May 1973 to Miguel and Adriana Colon in Altamira, Dominican. He spent his childhood living with his parents in a house that had no running water, interior plumbing, nor electricity. Responsibilities came to Bartolo at a very tender age as he started working at the age of 9 alongside his father, helping him harvest coffee beans and fruits.

He was taught how to play baseball by his father although, he had to play using a piece of tightly bound rags as his family was too poor to afford a proper ball. As a result of this, he worshipped his dad. Even as a young boy, Bartolo showed dominance at the game while playing in neighborhood competitions. However, he first drew attention at the age of 16 when a bird dog for the Cleveland Indians watched him pitch in a youth game. One would think that it was the start of good things to come for young Bartolo but it wasn’t, he was turned away from several trials even though he was old enough for a contract.

He eventually succeeded in getting his tryouts but was subjected to wait an extra two years before he was signed by the Indians in 1993 before going on to play his first Pro season in 1994.

The year 1995 was a breakthrough year for Bartolo. His outstanding performances didn’t go unnoticed as he received double awards for league pitcher of the year and Indian minor league player of the year. Ever since then, Bartolo has gone on to make history, writing his name in gold in the baseball world. He’s played for several teams which include, Montreal Expos, Chicago White Sox, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, Boston Red Sox,  New York Yankees, Oakland Athletics, New York Metz, Atlanta Braves, Minnesota Twins, and Texas Rangers.
