It is for the sports that the man referred to as Big Ben has come to be known even though he also has a personal life that is very interesting. Here is all to know about him.
Ben Roethlisberger Bio (Age)
The footballer was born Benjamin Todd Roethlisberger Sr. on March 2, 1982, in Lima, Ohio. His parents, Kenneth Todd Roethlisberger and Ida Jane Foust got divorced when he was just a boy of 2 and when he turned 8, he lost his mother in a car crash. This is a scar that remained with him all through the years as on the day he lost her, she was coming to pick him up for skating.
Even before then, he had remained with his father and stepmother, Brenda Roethlisberger, both of whom he said he is very blessed to have in his life.
Ben Roethlisberger was raised alongside his sister in a family that was athletic as his father who made the Elida High School Hall of Fame for athletic abilities also played as a quarterback in his college days at Georgia Tech before leaving the game as a result of a knee injury. His mother was also into athletics just like his sister who played basketball.
Career and Injury History
Roethlisberger went to the Findlay High School and then the Miami University where he excelled as a football player, paving the way for him to make the 2004 NFL Draft and be selected by the Pittsburgh Steelers which will remain the only team he has continued to play for. In his very lengthy career, he has become a Super Bowl Champion twice and has made 6 Pro Bowls, among many other records set.
Making a lot of achievements including the First QB to start two consecutive Conference Championship games does not come without its problems as Ben Roethlisberger also has an injury history, although that did not keep him from rising to the top of the sport.
He was first sidelined for a shoulder injury in 2008 and suffered a foot injury in 2010. The next year (2011), he injured his leg and battled it a great deal. 2012 saw this quarterback miss three games for the same reason. He had another injury in 2015 which kept him out of play for a while and sustained a knee injury the next year.
His Wife and Kids
If by any chance you find yourself wondering whether the NFL star is married, just know that he is. He got married in July 2011 to Ashley Harlan whom he met through a mutual friend in 2005 and began dating before long afterward.
When rumors first began that the two were dating there why Ashley or even any woman would decide to marry Big Ben considering the infamous reputation he had allegedly built.
This was in reference to two sexual assault cases that were brought against him. In 2008, he was accused by Andrea McNulty who was a former casino hotel hostess of sexually assaulting her. Also in 2010, he was accused of the same thing by a student who was at the time, 20 years old. While the first case of rape ended in a settlement, the second was not pursued because of lack of evidence. Nonetheless, he was still given a six-game suspension for violating the personal conduct policy of the NFL and he was made to attend the professional behavior evaluation program of the league.
The relationship between Ben and survived all these and after he proposed to her on Christmas day of 2010, they decided to become man and wife the very next year.
Today, the two are parents to three beautiful kids with the first, Benjamin Todd Roethlisberger born in 2012.
