Bobby Portis is an American professional Basketball Player who began playing professionally with the Chicago Bulls of the National Basketball Association, NBA. Like most pro basketball players, Bobby Portis played college basketball for the Arkansas Razorbacks from where he was drafted 22nd overall pick by the Bulls in the 2015 NBA draft. Bobby Portis Biography 

Bobby Portis was born in Little Rock, Arkansas, United State on February 10, 1995. He is of African ethnicity and was raised by his single mother, Tina Edwards as the oldest among four children. His younger siblings (all brothers) are Jared, Jamaal, and Jarod and he refers to his entire family as his pride and joy. Portis also had an uncle, Anthony Hicks who played basketball at Missouri State.

Bobby had a rough childhood and didn’t grow up in a privileged home; his mother worked with the American Airlines and his maternal grandfather Otis was a cab driver. His biological father was no help either but, Portis stayed positive and focused on getting educated. He attended Hall High School in his birth town, where he was a highly decorated prep basketball player.

In 2003, he earned himself McDonald’s and Parade All-American status and was named Mr. Basketball of Arkansas. He committed to Arkansas after high school, to become the first in-state McDonald’s All-American to sign with the Razorbacks since 1992.

Career Stats

Bobby Portis played in a total of 70 college basketball games at Arkansas Razorback mean’s team begining from 2013 to 2015. He averaged a total of 15.0 points, 7.9 rebounds, 1.5 blocks, and 1.3 assists.

In all his college career, the 6’11” power forward, was named to the All-SEC team, leading the Razorbacks to a top 25 ranking. He also finished as one of the top players in college basketball in the 2014–15 season and was projected as a first-round pick in the 2015 NBA draft.

He signed his rookie scale contract with the Chicago Bulls on July 7, 2015, after the team selected him 22nd overall in the 2015 NBA draft. Despite his team suffering two consecutive losses against the Charlotte Hornets and Detriot Pistons on November 3 and December 19, 2015, respectively, in the wake of his NBA debut, Portis scored a career-high 30 points and 11 rebounds.

It was reported that following a quadruple overtime loss to the Pistons, some of the Bulls’ starting five members were fatigued while heading into their December game against the New York Knickerbockers. The outcome gave Bobby Portis the advantage as he breath life into the team with his zealous energy and had the best night of his young career.

The Bulls extended Portis’ contract through the 2017-2018 seasons on October 28, 2016. He was assigned to the Windy City Bulls, a team affiliated to the Chicago Bulls, but was recalled the day after. He experienced his first three victories with the team on February 16, 2017, in a 104-103 match against the Boston Celtics; 94–87 win over the Golden State Warriors on March 2; and a 95–86 win over Utah Jazz. In all, Portis had a total career-high 58 points and 13 rebounds.

Portis had a short career set back on October 17, 2017, after a brawl with teammate Nikola Mirotić during practice whom he punched in the face. The Bulls suspended him for eight games until he made his season debut on November 7. His team lost the match in a 119-114 loss to the Toronto Raptors while he scored 21 points and 13 rebounds.

During their December 11, match against the Boston Celtics, Portis recorded a career-high 23 points in their 108-85 victory. The Power forward set a new record on Dec. 15 with 27 points to go with 12 rebounds in the Bull’s 115-109 win over the Milwaukee Bucks.

The Bulls began the 2018 season with a 116-115 loss to the Philadelphia 76ers; and a 114–109 loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers. While Portis scored yet another career-high 53 points and a season-high 15 rebounds.

Family and Girlfriend

The NBA player has used every medium possible to express his deep love and appreciation to his mother, Tina. On May 2018, Portis surprised his mum with a new fully-furnished house, just north of Little Rock, where Portis was born. Not even his younger brothers knew about it. He has also gifted her a brand new car and a plasma TV.
