Brandon Knight is an American-born professional basketball player who plies his trade with the Houston Rockets of the National Basketball Association (NBA). Before joining the Rockets in August 2018, the talented NBA star played for the Detroit Pistons, the Milwaukee Bucks and the Phoenix Suns.
Knight’s winning ways dates back to his high school days during which he won 2 consecutive Gatorade National Boys Basketball Player of the Year awards. He had his college basketball career at the University of Kentucky and he was a first-round pick of the 2011 NBA Draft.

Brandon Emmanuel Knight was born on December 2, 1991, in Miami, Florida. His parents are Tonya and Efrem Knight and he was raised alongside an older brother Efrem Jr.
Knight had his high school education at Pine Crest School in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. In his junior year, the youngster led the school to their second straight Class 3A state title and was named the 2009 Florida Mr. Basketball. He also won the highly-coveted Gatorade National Boys Basketball Player of the Year award in his junior year becoming the first student-athlete from Florida and also the third junior after (2002) and Greg Oden (2005) to achieve the feat.
In his senior year, Knight also led the school to the state championship final in an eventually unsuccessful quest for a 3rd straight title. For his senior year performance, he was named for the 2010 McDonald’s All-American Game, the Nike Hoop Summit, and the Jordan Brand Classic and was also named a first-team Parade All-American. Just like in his junior year, he won the 2010 Florida Mr. Basketball and the 2010 Gatorade National Boys Basketball Player of the Year awards and was equally named the Gatorade Male Athlete of the Year. An all-around performer, Knight was the valedictorian of his graduating class as he finished high school with a lofty 4.3 grade-point.
Brandon Knight reached an agreement with the University of Kentucky where he spent just one season of college football. Though shortlived, Knight’s stint with the Kentucky Wildcats was nothing short of remarkable. He was named the SEC freshman of the week on 3occasions and by February 2011, he was among the 10 finalists for the Bob Cousy Award, an award given to the top men’s collegiate point guard. He equally helped the team win the 2011 SEC championship title and for the first time in 13 years, they advanced to the Final Four of the national championship. Knight’s performance earned him All-SEC first team and SEC All-Freshman team designations.
On April 20, 2011, the talented youngster announced his decision to enter the 2011 NBA Draft forgoing 3 years of college eligibility.
NBA Career
The Detroit Pistons selected Brandon Knight in the first round of the 2011 NBA Draft as the 8th overall pick of the draft. Among other highlights of his 2-year stint with the Pistons, Knight was named to the NBA All-Rookie first team in his debut season and also featured in both the 2012 and 2013 editions of the Rising Stars Challenge.
Brandon Knight, Khris Middleton, and Viacheslav Kravtsov were all traded by the Pistons to the Milwaukee Bucks in return for point guard Brandon Jennings. In his first season with the Bucks, Knight posted averages of 17.9 points, 4.7 assists, 3.5 rebounds and one steal per game. The NBA star took his performance a notch higher in the 2014-15 season as he averaged 17.8 points as well as career-high 4.3 rebounds, 5.4 assists and 1.6 steals per game.
Despite a relatively brilliant second season with the Milwaukee Bucks, Brandon Knight was traded to the Phoenix Suns in a three-team multi-player deal in which the Philadelphia 76ers were also included. For the remainder of the 2014-15 season, Knight made only 11 appearances for the Suns before incurring a series of injuries which had him sidelined till the end of the season. The 2015-16 season can be adjudged as his best season with the Phoenix Suns as he averaged career-high 19.6 points and 0.4 blocks as well as 5.1 assists and 3.1 rebounds per game.
Brandon Knight came off the bench for the majority of the 2016-17 season during which he made only 5 starts in 54 total appearances and his scoring average dipped to 11.0 points per game. Unfortunately, he was ruled out for the entire 2017-18 season after suffering an ACL injury in his left knee during the summer of 2017.
In August 2018, Brandon Knight was traded with Marquese Chriss to the Houston Rockets in a swap deal which gave Ryan Anderson and De’Anthony Melton to the Phoenix Suns.
