The amazing star was born in Syracuse, New York in the United States on August 27, 1994. She grew up with her parents and younger brother Connor Stewart. She belongs to North American ethnicity and holds an American nationality. Based on her incredible height, the basketball prodigy developed a keen interest in the sport from a very early stage. She attended Cicero-North Syracuse High School, New York where she played basketball for the school team.

Being a versatile player, Breanna’s fans call her ‘Bean’ courtesy of her wingspan. She finished her rookie year averaging nine rebounds, seven blocks, and seventeen points per game. In her sophomore year, she led her school to clinch the state AA public school title, thus averaging 15 rebounds and 24 points per game.

The multi-talented star recorded her career high in 2012, scoring her 2,000th point for the Cicero-North basketball team. She was named to McDonald’s All-American team and was also selected for the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) High School All American team in the same year. Breanna finished her high school career winning the Naismith High School Girls Player of the Year Award and was also named Gatorade National Girls Basketball Player of the Year 2012.

Stewart enrolled at the University of Connecticut where she continued with her college career. In her freshman year, she put up an outstanding performance in NCAA tournament which earned her the award of the Most Outstanding Player of the Final Four. During her senior year at UConn, Stewart led the Huskies to win national championships four consecutive times, thus finishing her college career with 2,676 points, 1,179 rebounds, 414 blocks in 151 game plays. She received several awards including Associated Press Women’s College Basketball Player of the Year Award; American Athletic Player of the Year Award, the Wade Trophy, and USBWA Women’s Player of the Year award. Additionally, she got a spot in the First-team All-American in WBCA and USBWA.

Professional Career and Stats

Breanna Stewart was the Seattle Storm’s first overall pick in the WNBA draft of 2016. Playing alongside Sue Bird, Stewart made her debut for the Storm scoring 23 points in the game against the Los Angeles Sparks. She made a franchise history as the second player with most points in a game by scoring 38 points in the game against the Atlanta Dream. Stewart finished the freshman year recording 1.8 blocks, 9.3 rebounds, and 18.3 points per game. Following her outstanding performance, Stewart was named to the 2017 WNBA All-Star team, and won the ESPY Award as well as the Rookie of the Year Award.

The Storms didn’t record an impressive 2017 season as they finished eighth in the league. Stewart averaged 19.9 points per game. During the 2016 and 2017 off-season, Stewart signed up with Shanghai Baoshan Dahua of the Women’s Chinese Basketball Association (WCBA).

Asides from professional basketball, Stewart is a two-time gold medalist with the United States Female Basketball Team. She led the United States team to the 2016 Olympics, thus winning the gold medal. Similarly, Stewart helped the team to win the gold medal at the 2014 World Championship and in 2015, they won silverware at the Pan American games.
