Biography

Renowned golfer, Bubba Watson, was born as Gerry Lester Watson Jr on November 5th, 1978. Bubba was born in Bagdad, Florida and became interested in golf at a very tender age of six. The nickname Bubba was given to him by his own father who was a former professional footballer. According to Bubba, his father was his inspiration in his early days of golfing and his full support motivated him to become the sportsman he is today but unfortunately, his father died of throat cancer.

When he was six years old, Bubba’s father took him to a golf course for the first time and that was the origin of his interest in golf. His interest grew until it became an all-consuming one because the budding golfer spent years hitting Wiffle balls in his backyard as he engages in a daily practice. According to little Bubba, he preferred a ball and a club to playing with trucks as children would normally do.

Bubba graduated from Milton High School where he made an all impressive show as an amateur even without any formal training. The young promising golfer, while playing for Faulkner State Community College, was named first-team junior college All-American. From college, He proceeded to the University of Georgia where he participated actively in golf. Through his efforts, his team was able to bag the 2000 Southeastern Conference title. He spent years as a part of the University’s golfing team before joining the 2001 Nation Tour.

Professional Career

Bubba became a professional golfer in the year 2003, he participated in the nationwide tour and played till 2005. The experienced golfer was ranked 21st on Nationwide Tour’s money list which took place in 2005. His positive rank qualified him to be part of the PGA Tour for the next year. He is rated as one of the longest drivers on the PGA Tour. In 2007, he had an average drive of 315.2 (288.2 m) to his credit. The talented golfer has the capacity to hit a ball over 350 yards (320 m), and he is also credited with the capacity of generating a ball speed up to 194 mph (312 km/h).

On the 27th of June 2010, Bubba Watson bagged his first PGA Tour win in Cromwell, Connecticut, at the Travelers Championship. He ended up as runner-up to Martin Kaymer at the PGA Championship at Whistling Straits, in 2010. His next PGA Tour win came at the Farmers Insurance Open on 30th January 2011, and also at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans on the 1st of May 2011.

Bubba finished one stroke ahead of his runner-up on the 30th of January 2011 in his second PGA Tour, the Farmers Insurance Open. The official world golf ranking of 2015 placed Bubba in the 2nd place.
