Since then, the bundle of talents has not slowed down as she keeps putting her talent to good use, making her fans proud and increasing her fan base non-stop.
Thanks to her successful music career, her speculated relationship with her Fifth Harmony group member, Lauren Jauregui, her relationship with Matthew Hussey and currently Shawn Mendes, Camila Cabello has succeeded in registering her name on the list of American celebrities.
Camila Cabello’s Journey To Stardom
The singer was born to Alejandro Cabello and Sinuhe Estrabao on 3rd March 1997 in Cojimar, Eastern Havana, Cuba. As a child, her family lived in Havana and Mexico City alternately before they eventually moved to Miami, Florida (though without her father who joined them about 18 months later) when she was about 5.
At this time, Camila could not speak English at all but her strong desire to become a singer, even at that very young age, drove her to start learning how to communicate in English by doing karaoke to the albums of artists like Britney Spears and Hilary Duff and singing to her family and friends. While in Miami Palmetto High School, Camila’s passion to become a professional singer waxed stronger and unable to entertain further delay, she abandoned her studies in the 9th grade to pursue her dream career. However, she later returned to school and bagged her high school diploma certificate.
After leaving school, the then-15-year-old Camila Cabello set out to make her dream a reality by attending 2012 The X Factor audition but unfortunately, she was eliminated during the ‘Bootcamp’ stage of the audition process in Miami. Nevertheless, having seen the rare talent that she possesses, Simon Cowell could not let her go so he brought her back on the competition to join four other girls – Lauren Jauregui, Ally Brooke, Dinah Jane, and Normani Kordei – to form an all-female group that subsequently became Fifth Harmony. The group emerged third in the competition and was signed to Simon Cowell’s Syco Music label and Epic Records, owned by L.A. Reid.
Why Did She Break Away From Fifth Harmony?
Camila remained with Fifth Harmony and together, they released a number of songs, including two studio albums Reflection (2015) and 7/27 (2016), before she later pulled out in 2016. Announcing her departure from the group via a statement in December 2016, the group claimed that they discovered that Camila was leaving through her reps, adding that the remaining members will continue to carry the Fifth Harmony torch.
Responding to the statement, Camila took to her Instagram page to defend herself as she debunked some of the allegations the group made against her. She insisted that the girls were very much aware of her intentions to be a solo artist and even at that, she never wanted things to end the way it eventually did. As a result of the contradicting statements, fans were left yearning for details.
A year and a few weeks after the singer left Fifth Harmony, fans finally got the clarity they needed as to the reason behind her decision to leave the group that brought her into the limelight. This happened when Camila Cabello spoke in an Times, explaining that even though she enjoyed working with Fifth Harmony, she also enjoyed doing collaborations with other artists.
The singer actually did a few collabos with artists like Shawn Mendes and Machine Gun Kelly, and also had some writing sessions with producer Diplo. From her explanation, it could be understood that she did this out of her willingness to learn but in the process, she began to crave the freedom that these other artists had to write their songs and make their own music. However, it was impossible to do solo things while in a group.
Her work outside the group created some sort of tension among the girls, leaving Camila in a tight corner. Faced with two choices- to pursue her solo endeavors low-key to maintain peace with her bandmates or to leave the group and chase her solo dream head-on- the singer decided to go with the latter. Was her decision to exit the group selfish? Yes. But being selfish is, sometimes, not really a bad thing, particularly when fulfilling your life’s purpose depends on it.
Camila’s Career Accomplishments After She Went Solo
During her time in Fifth Harmony, Camila Cabello was obviously the star of the collective and as a result, her fans had nothing to worry about as to whether or not she would succeed as a solo artist after her breakout from the group. In 2017, she collaborated with Norwegian DJ Cashmere Cat to release the official version of the song titled “Love Incredible” on the 16th of February. The song, which was initially leaked on the internet on January 25, 2017, was subsequently featured on 9, Cashmere’s debut album.

Two months after, the Cuban-American singer broke the news of her plans to release her debut studio album, which was titled The Hurting. The Healing. The Loving., at the time.
This was followed by the release of her debut single, “Crying in the Club”, on May 19, 2017, and her performance at that year’s Billboard Music Awards on May 21st. On August 3, 2017, Camila’s song “Havana” featuring rapper Young Thug, was released alongside “OMG” from her then-yet-to-be-released solo debut album.
“Havana” turned out to be a huge success both commercially and on the billboard in several countries, including the U.S, U.K, France, and Canada among others. Consequently, other songs written and recorded for her debut album were impacted by the success of the single. Afterward, two more of the singer’s single titled “Real Friends” and “Never Be the Same” were both released on the 7th of December 2017. The latter made it to the top 10 on Hot 100, becoming her third song to make it to the first ten positions on the list.
With “Havana” and “Never Be the Same”, Cabello also became the first artist to make it to the Mainstream Top 40 and Adult Top 40 airplay charts with singles from a debut studio album. She also worked together with the Guess clothing line as the face of the company’s 2017 Fall campaign.
Finally, Camila Cabello’s much-anticipated debut album dropped on January 12, 2018. The self-titled album, which contains songs and ballads influenced by her Latin roots, debuted at the number one spot in the U.S with more than a hundred thousand sales and was later certified platinum in America.
In April 2018, the amazing singer hit the road for her first tour as a solo artist, the Never Be the Same Tour. While still on her tour, Camila started performing as Taylor Swift’s opening act in her Reputation Stadium Tour. She performed for the first time as a headliner on July 31, 2018, at the Mohegan Sun Arena and released a video of the single, “Consequences” on October 9, 2018.
The beautiful lady ended 2018 with two Grammy nominations, thanks to her super-amazing live performance of “Havana”, and the album “Camila”. The following year, Camila released “Señorita” with singer Shawn Mendes, “Liar”, “Shameless”, “Cry for Me”, “Easy”, “Living Proof” and co-recorded Ed Sheeran’s “South of the Border” with rapper Cardi B before releasing her second album titled Romance on December 6. She is set to support the album with the Romance Tour in 2020.
All You Need To Know About Camila Cabello’s Relationship With Shawn Mendes
Camila Cabelo and Shawn Mendes started off as friends in 2015 when they collaborated on the song “I Know What You Did Last Summer”. Speaking in an interview, Camila admitted that during the making of the song, they both developed a bond that was more than just simple friendship but because they were very young coupled with the career pressures that Shawn was facing at the time, they did not know what to do with those feelings.
Consequently, despite liking each other and the existing chemistry between them, they continued with their friendship after releasing the song. Even when the duo was asked if they were interested in each other romantically, both of them said they were in the “friendzone”. Thereafter, Camila and Shawn’s paths did not cross in that romantic way until they began hanging out and writing again.
They released a cover of Ed Sheeran’s song, “Kiss Me”, in 2017 and still reassured fans that they were just friends with no strings attached and intended to keep their relationship that way. By June 2019 the singers released their second song “Senorita” and this time, it was very obvious that they had taken their friendship to another level but were not ready to let the public know about it yet. The true nature of their relationship remained confusing until around the end of July 2019 when they were seen kissing in Miami. With their cover blown, the duo eventually confirmed that they were a pair the following month. Also in August 2019, they were present at the MTV VMAs where they put up a steamy performance of “Senorita”.
While many of their fans who have been wishing for the two to start dating a long time ago were happy, a lot of other people accused Camila and Shawn of forming the relationship for publicity. However, Shawn has denied the allegation saying it is definitely not an attempt to gain publicity.
