Carson Palmer is a former NFL quarterback who spent 15 seasons of his HFL career playing for Cincinnati Bengals, Oakland Raiders, and Arizona Cardinals. Palmer played college football from 1998 till he was drafted by the Cincinnati Bengals in the first overall pick of the 2003 NFL Draft.

He was with the Bengals for eight seasons before being traded to the Oakland Raiders, where he was for two seasons before joining Arizona in 2013. He remained with the Cardinals until January 2018, when he announced his retirement.

Biography

Carson was born in Fresno, California on December 27, 1979, to Dana and Bill Palmer as Carson Hilton Palmer. He was just in seventh grade when he began showing remarkable arm strength that made his dad enroll him in a private class where he would later be taught by quarterback guru Bob Johnson.

Carson Palmer has three siblings – two brothers and a sister. His brothers’ names are Jordan and Robert. His sister, Jennifer Santos Jordan is an American indoor football player who currently plays for Tennessee Titans.

While in High School at Margarita Catholic High School, Rancho Santa Margarita California, he was a member of the school football team, playing as a QB. He was so good that people from the university community came around to watch him play. After his junior days, he began receiving offers from big teams like Notre Dame, USC, Miami (Florida), Colorado, and even from San Diego State.

During his senior days, Palmer became one of the most touted players ever to come out of Santa Margarita Catholic High School. He led the Orange County with a 203.9 quarterback rating and was soon named the first-team all-league and All-CIF.

Career

After High school, Carson played college football for USC and even went ahead to win the Heisman Trophy in 2002 after being nominated for the award alongside Brad Banks and Larry Johnson, whom he defeated to emerge the winner.

He was the fifth player and first quarterback from USC to ever win the award. His career at USC ended with 72 passing touchdowns, 49 interceptions, 927 completions, 1,569 attempts, and 11,818 passing yards.

He began his professional career in 2003 when he was picked by Cincinnati Bengals in the first overall pick of the 2003 NFL Draft. His six years contract worth $42.69 million saw him stuck with the Bengals for eight seasons before being traded to the Oakland Raiders in the 2011 season.

Interestingly, Carson didn’t play throughout his rookie season with the Bengals, rather, he was made to learn the position both during games and in practice under head coach Marvin Lewis and quarterbacks coach Ken Zampese. After learning the position during his rookie season, he made his NFL debut in 2004 against New York Jets.

He moved to Oakland Raiders in 2011 where he spent two seasons before he was officially traded to Arizona Cardinals in April 2013, for a 2013 NFL Draft sixth-round pick and for a conditional pick in the 2014 NFL Draft. He remained with the Cardinals till he announced his retirement in 2018.

At the time of his retirement, he was ranked 12th all-time in both passing yards and passing touchdowns recording 46,247 and 294, respectively. During his NFL career, he won the NFL Alumni Quarterback of the Year (2005), FedEx Player of the Year award (2005, 2015) SN Comeback Player of the Year award (2015) Ed Block Courage Award (2006).

The former quarterback has worked hard in order to build his career as well as his net worth which is currently estimated to be $110 million. He was in 2017 named among the wealthiest NFL players of all time.

Carson has been married to former USC soccer player, Shaelyn since July 2003. Shaelyn was the starting goalkeeper on the Trojans’ women soccer team. The couple met in the fall of 1998 during freshman orientation at USC, and they remained together till they tied the knots in 2003 in Pebble Beach, California.

In January 2009, the couple welcomed a set of twins – son Fletch and daughter Elle. They later welcomed another daughter named Bries, the latest addition to the family is a son that arrived in 2016 just before the Super Bowl.

Palmer’s brother, Jordan Palmer, was his best man at the wedding. Jordan played quarterback at the University of Texas at El Paso.
