When Chad Kelly was snapped up as the last man standing at the 2017 NFL Draft, a position which came with the unwanted name tag “Mr. Irrelevant,” the stage was set and everyone watched to see how he would turn out in the NFL. Looking at how his career had progressed in his time with Ole Miss, one would not be wrong if it were described as a little above average. However, now on the roster of the Denver Broncos, Kelly had the opportunity to be the star he wants to be.
Chad Kelly’s Profile
Kelly was born Chad Patrick Kelly on March 26, 1994, and raised in Western New York. His parents are Kevin Kelly and Charlene Cudzylo Kelly. His father, Kevin, who was a grocery store manager was also the older brother of the popular National Football League (NFL) quarterback, Jim Kelly. Having seen his nephew pick interest in a sport he prospered in, his uncle, Jim, who was still playing professional football for the Buffalo Bills, sought to make an impression on the young Kelly as a mentor in the game. But Kelly had other ideas and his uncle had to give up as he noticed Kelly was not following his instructions.
Chad Kelly initially played football with the Red Lion High School Football team when his family moved to Pennsylvania as a result of his father being transferred to a store in Red Lion, but he was soon butted out of the team and had to return to Western New York.
When he enrolled for high school at the St. Joseph’s Collegiate Institute in Tonawanda, New York, he joined the school’s football team. His performance in high school would see Rivals.com – a network of websites that focuses on the performances of high school and college football (and basketball) teams – rate him among the top dual-threat quarterbacks in his class. For his junior and senior school year, Kelly passed for 5209 yards and 51 touchdowns and rushed for 2050 yards and 29 touchdowns. He was also rated a “four-star recruit” by the same website.
He graduated from high school in 2012 and proceeded to Clemson University in Clemson, South Carolina as he had already given his commitment to play for the school’s football team. Having not played in his first year with the team, he featured in only five games for the side in his sophomore year. But in 2014, trouble came knocking as he was hauled off the team roster due to an improper conduct that was detrimental to the team. He left Clemson and went to East Mississippi Community College where he led the college to a record 12 wins without a loss in his only season there. With that feat, East Mississippi Lions won the 2015 NJCAA National Football Championship.
His next port of call was the University of Mississippi (fondly referred to as Ole Miss). He played in his first game for the Ole Miss Rebels as a starting quarterback against UT Martin. He would go on to lead the Rebels to important victories against Alabama and Louisiana State, including one in the 2016 All-State Sugar Bowl against Oklahoma State. Due to his performance in the match, he was awarded Sugar Bowl MVP Honors. His next season was hampered by an injury to his right knee – torn ACL and lateral meniscus – which he had in a match against Georgia Southern in November 2016.
For his professional football career, Chad Kelly currently plays in the NFL for Denver Broncos after he was drafted in the seventh round during the 2017 NFL Draft as the last pick of the draft (253rd overall). That position automatically earned him the title “Mr. Irrelevant.”
Salary and Net Worth
Despite his haphazard career, Kelly is worth $2 million which has accrued to him as a result of the 4-year contract worth $2,464,270 he signed with his team – Denver Broncos. His annual salary is about $616,068. He also has begun to live the life that suits his net worth as he recently slashed the cash to acquire a brand new Ford automobile priced at $54,000.
There is a feeling that it is only the beginning, as his full football potential is yet to be unleashed. When that is done, it is only natural that it will attract new bumper contracts that will skyrocket his net worth figures in no distant time. All you need to do is to watch this space.
Personal Life – Is Chad Kelly Married? Girlfriend
Chad Kelly’s relationship life is scanty. He is not married and is currently dating no one (at least none that we know of). He is probably trying to concentrate on his career and also on unlocking the genius we all know is locked up somewhere inside him. There is no relationship activity around him – no posts of any lady on any of his social media accounts, no vacations with anyone – and so it is safe to assume that the Denver Broncos quarterback is currently single.
But he has not always been like this. Kelly has had at least one public relationship. He was in a relationship with Nicole Bell, a former cheerleader for Atlanta Falcons in 2014. Bell is a model and she graduated from Georgia State University. Unlike Kelly, Bell has moved on and is currently dating Zac Hauther.
Body Stats – Weight, Height, Measurements
The Broncos QB has an athlete’s height and even more. He is measured at 6 feet 2 inches (1.88 m) for height and his weight is proportionate at 224 lbs. His other body measurements and stats are not available.
Other Facts About Chad Kelly
Chad Kelly has had some scandals off the field. It was reported in 2015 that he had fought in a bar in his hometown, Buffalo and punched the bouncer’s face for which he was arrested.
He had a cousin – Hunter Kelly – the only son of his Hall of Fame uncle, Jim Kelly. However, the boy died as a child from a congenital disease
The two years he spent with Ole Miss Rebels was quite remarkable as he set a whopping 25 football records there.
He was the first quarterback in SEC history to average 309.1 passing yards per game in 22 games.
In 2015, he became one out of only three SEC quarterbacks (the others being Tim Couch in 1998 and in 2013) to throw for 4,000 yards in a season.
His invitation to participate in the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis was withdrawn because of his off-field issues (even though that un-inviting him was just a PR stunt).
