Wrestling Career

What started as a spell in a backyard wrestling program known as the Lunatic Wrestling Federation in the 1990s with his brother Mike and friends, eventually became the art in which he was famed. While the others saw wrestling as simple fun, CM Punk genuinely wanted to be a wrestler. Afterward, he left the federation and enrolled at the Steel Dominion wrestling school, Chicago where he was trained to become a professional wrestler.

His prolific winning started in his early days. During his promotion for his early career at the Independent Wrestling Association Mid-South (IWA Mid-South), Punk had high-profile feuds with Colt Cabana and Chris Hero and rose to the top of the roster. He won the IWA Mid-South Light Heavyweight Championship twice and the IWA Mid-South Heavyweight Championship five times before he left the promotion in July 2005.

He was hired by the Ring of Honor (ROH) promotion during a hiatus from IWA between July 2003 until May 2004.
