Dana Carvey is an American-born actor, stand-up comedian, writer and producer. He shot to fame in the late 1980s as a cast member on the long-running late-night live TV show Saturday Night Live. The Emmy-award winner is well-known for his pitch-perfect impersonations of top society figures, especially past and present presidents of the United States. As an actor, Carvey is best known for his lead role as Garth Algar in the Wayne’s World film series.

Dana Thomas Carvey was born on June 2, 1955, in Missoula, Montana. His mother Billie Dahl and his father Bud Carvey were both teachers. He is of English, German, Irish, Norwegian, and Swedish ancestry and was raised alongside 4 siblings, brothers Dana, Mark and Scott and sister Lori. The family relocated to the San Francisco Bay Area of California when Dana Carvey was still a toddler. The young Carvey began his high school education at Tierra Linda Junior High in San Carlos and later moved to Carlmont High School In Belmont, California. He had his college education at San Francisco State University where he obtained a bachelor’s degree in broadcast communications.
Gifted in acting and comedy, Dana Carvey had multiple job options in the earlier days of his showbiz career. He had minor roles in a number of sitcoms and also featured in small films like Halloween II (1981), This Is Spinal Tap (1984) and Racing with the Moon (1984). 1986 can be described as Carvey’s breakout year both in movies as well as on television. Dana Carvey is currently married to his wife of well over 3 decades Paula. The couple met way back in 1979 while Carvey was performing at the famed San Francisco-based comedy club ‘The Other Cafe’. After several months of dating, the duo got engaged in 1981. Dana Carvey and Paula Zwagerman eventually tied the knot on January 8, 1983. The duo currently has two children. They welcomed their first son Dex Carvey in 1991 and their second son Thomas Carvey was born in 1993.
In the mid-90s, when his career was fully taking off, Dana Carvey took some time away from the limelight in order to raise his children. It also appears that his children have equally towed their famous dad’s path into showbiz. In April 2016, both of Carvey’s sons opened for him during his Dana Carvey: Straight White Male, 60 stand-up comedy show held at the Wilbur Theatre in Boston.
