Denis Colin Leary was born on August 18, 1957, in Worcester, Massachusetts to Irish immigrants Nora (née Sullivan) and John Leary. He is the second of his parents’ 4 children. He had his high school education at Saint Peter’s High School in Worcester after which he studied at Emerson College located in downtown Boston. Denis Leary is credited to have instituted the Comedy Workshop at Emerson College and upon completion of his studies, he was employed by the school to teach comedy writing.
He began his showbiz career as a comedian performing in several clubs around Boston. He also appeared on several TV shows including The Rascals Comedy Hour and The Late, Late Show. Leary gained prominence in the early 1990s when he headlined a series of commercials on MTV. Following his growing profile, he released the comedy albums No Cure for Cancer (1993) and Lock ‘n Load (1997). His third comedy album Merry F#%$in’ Christmas was released in November 2004.
Denis Leary’s most notable acting credits include the single-camera sitcom The Job (2001-02), as well as the comedy-drama series, Rescue Me (2004-2011), doubling as co-creator in the latter.
