Derek whose full name is Derek Dallas Carr was born on March 28, 1991, in Bakersfield, California, as the youngest of three children, his parents; Rodger and Sheryl Carr had. His family’s abode was in Bakersfield where he attended Clements High School before they relocated to Sugar Land, Texas and later back to Bakersfield where he completed his senior year of high school at Bakersfield Christian High School.
Following an impressive junior high school football career, Derek Carr got interesting offers from California State University, Fresno (Fresno State), Southern Methodist University, Boise State University, the University of Southern California, and the University of California, Los Angeles to join their college football programs. From these, Derek Carr made a verbal commitment to Fresno State which he kept to by the time he left high school in 2008. He was named the 2009 National Player of the Year by the National Private Schools Athletic Association.
Derek’s college career began with Fresno State in the spring of 2009, he was redshirted till 2011 as head coach Pat Hill felt Ryan Colburn was better than him as a quarterback. He, however, found a place in the starting line up in the fall of 2011 and in three years with the team, he recorded 12,843 passing yards and 113 touchdowns. Derek Carr was awarded the MWC Offensive Player of the Year for the 2012 season, 2013 CFPA Elite QB Award and the Sammy Baugh Trophy awarded to the top collegiate passer-by the Touchdown Club of Columbus.
Derek found his way into the NFL in the 2014 NFL Draft as the 36th overall pick in the second round of the draft when he was selected by the Oakland Raiders. Come May 21, 2014, he committed to papers on a four-year contract worth $5.37 million with $2.2 million as signing bonus.
He played with the Raiders from 2014 through 2017 putting up impressive performances in every game and thus proving himself indispensable for the team. For the right amount, Derek Carr didn’t look elsewhere when his contract was nearing expiration.

Derek Carr is married to Heather Neel with whom he shares two sons with – Dallas and Deker Luke. The nuptials between the two held on June 29, 2012, in a Christian marriage ceremony. The two has remained as one since then.
Heather Neel is a graduate of Fresno Christian High School and Fresno State and the two met while at BJ’s Brewhouse in Fresno to augment her finances for college. Derek Carr has a brother; David Duke Carr who was formerly a professional American football quarterback in the NFL. He was born on July 21, 1979, and attended Valley Oak Elementary School, Clovis Unified’s Kastner Intermediate School, and Stockdale High School at various times.
David began his college career with the Fresno State Bulldogs Football team of the California State University, Fresno. His college career stats saw him complete 565 of 901 passes for 7,849 yards and he threw 65 touchdowns with 22 interceptions to his credit out of 36 games he played for the team from 1997 through 2001.
He entered the 2002 NFL Draft as the first overall pick of the draft as selected by the Houston Texas. David Duke Carr played with the Texans until 2007 when he joined the Carolina Panthers on April 6. After the Panthers, his next teams were the New York Giants (signed on March 12, 2008) then San Francisco 49ers (signed on March 7, 2010), New York Giants again (signed on on July 31, 2011) where he finally retired in 2013 to begin a coaching career in 2015 at Bakersfield Christian High School as an offensive coordinator.
