Dwayne Wade is a professional basketball player who has made a name for himself, playing in the National Basketball Association (NBA) for the Miami Heat as a shooting guard. Since making the NBA draft in 2003, he has remained significant, playing for a couple of teams before returning the Miami Heat. Here is all to know about him.
Dwayne Wade Biography
The Miami Heat man was born Dwyane Tyrone Wade Jr. on January 17, 1982, in Chicago, Illinois. It was there that he was raised alongside his siblings until he was 9 years old when he moved to another area to live with his father. Before then, his childhood was not without difficulties, most especially as he was raised by his mother Jolinda Wade, who was on drugs and his first environment was an area with various gangs.
Moving in with his father Dwyane Wade Sr. who was in the military was what made the difference in his life as he helped in providing the discipline he needed and taking him away from the life of crime and drugs.
For his education, Wade attended the Harold L. Richards High School, and from there, he moved to the Marquette University where he spent three years before going professional. Nonetheless, he still came around to attend the Diederich College of Communication.
Career-wise, having made great runs in his college days, Wade was selected in the 2003 NBA Draft by the Miami Heat. He became the highest selection for any Marquette University player, making a 5th overall pick in round 1.
He remained with the team until he signed a $47 million deal with the Chicago Bulls in 2016, only to reach a deal with Cleveland Cavaliers in 2017. Later in 2018, he decided to go back to the Miami Heat.
Thus far, he has had what can be described as a very successful basketball career, recording 3 NBA championships, one NBA finals MVP, 12 All-star, and much more including the NBA All-Rookie First Team which he won in 2004.
Apart from playing in the NBA, Wade has also played for the US Men’s basketball, winning the bronze medal during the 2004 Olympics and the Gold medal at the 2008 events in Beijing. The team also got the bronze medal at the 2006 basketball world cup.
Wife, Son, Divorce, Baby Mama
The basketballer has been in a number of relationships in the past. The first woman he dated is Siohvaughn Wade. The two have been together since they were both in high school until they decided to take it a step further in 2002 by becoming man and wife. Unfortunately, by 2007, they had both walked their ways, even though it was in 2010 that the divorce was made official. Dwayne was given custody of the two children the couple had.
Following the end of his first marriage, it was rumoured that he dated Kelly Rowland. The said relationship between the two began in 2007 and it ended the same year. By the time the relationship ended, he began yet another one with Vanessa Simmons which began and ended in 2008.
From 2009, the basketballer began dating American actress, Gabrielle Union. The two would go on to get married in 2014 although they took a break from the relationship in 2011 before finally settling back together.
During the break of his relationship with Gabrielle, Wade dated Aja Metoyer who went on to become his baby mama. She gave birth to the child in 2013, but that was not the only child Metoyer birthed to a celebrity. She gave birth to two children to Damon Wayans Jr. who was her high school sweetheart.
That stated, Wade has 3 children in total, with his eldest son Zaire Blessing Dwayne birthed to him by his first wife, Siohvaughn Funches who also gave birth to his second son, Zion Malachi Airamis in 2011.
