Bio & Age

Faith Renée Evans was born in Lakeland, Florida on the 10th of June 1973. Her mother, Helen Evans, was an African-American singer while her dad Richard Swain was a caucasian musician. Unfortunately, he left Faith and her mum when she was very little and consequently, she never met him.

Faith spent her formative years with foster parents Orvelt Kennedy and his wife Johnnie Mae, who also happened to be her mother’s cousins. Faith’s mother was 19 years old when she had to go back to Newark, New Jersey and opted to leave her daughter in a foster home that comprised of over 100 kids. When Helen finally came back for her daughter, the singer had already become emotionally attached to Orvelt and Johnnie that she actually saw them as grandparents. The budding star refused to leave her comfort zone and consequently, her mother had to move in next door.

Growing up in a Christian environment brought the rising star closer to the church. At two years old, she performed for the first time in front of her church congregation. By the time she turned four, she was already popular among the parishioners of Emmanuel Baptist Church which was located in Newark.

During her teenage years, she began performing with a jazz band and her mother encouraged her to participate in several contests, festivals, and pageants. Faith was to study marketing at Fordham University New York but dropped out after one year because of an unplanned pregnancy. She spent some time working as a backup singer for Al B. Sure!, in Los Angeles where she had moved to in 1993. As luck would have it, Sean “Puff Daddy” Combs of the Bad Boy Entertainment record label was impressed with her talent and he decided to sign her on as the first female artist of his record label.

In 2010, after a five-year break, the rising star launched her very own record label, the Prolific Music Group. With the help of some top talents like Raekwon, Keyshia Cole, and Redman, Faith Evans built her record label to its present glory.
