Gareth Bale is a Welsh Football player who has played for Southampton, Tottenham Hotspurs and currently plays for Spanish giants Real Madrid.
Biography
Bale was born on the 16th of July, 1989 in Cardiff, Wales. His dad Frank Bale was a local school caretaker while his mum Debbie Bale was an operations clerk. His footballing skills were first spotted by Southampton scouts at his Primary School at the Eglwys Newydd Primary School, Whitchurch.
Bale proceeded to Whitchurch High School in Cardiff where he excelled as an all-around athlete. Though football had always been his first love, Bale was equally adept at Rugby, Sprints, hockey and other sports. His skill set was such that he was a dream student for every PE teacher.
He reportedly ran the 100-meter sprint in 11.4 seconds as a 14-year-old. As a schoolboy, his footballing skills were ahead of those of his peers such that he needed his own rules. During games, his PE teacher, Gwyn Morris would insist that he be restricted to touching the ball once (and not with his favorite left foot) while other kids could play with both feet.
It was while growing up at Whitchurch, that Bale started training at Southampton’s satellite academy in Bath.
Gareth Bale made his professional debut for Southampton on the 17th of April 2006, at the age of 16 years and 275 days, becoming the second youngest player ever to play for Southampton, a record only bettered by Theo Walcott.
His first league goal was a free kick against Derby County. As a youngster, he was already making a name for himself as a specialist free kick taker. Whilst playing in the Championship, Bale was named the Football League Young Player of the Year on 4 March 2007. After the first leg of the Championship play-off, Semi-Finals against Derby County, Bale’s time with the South coast club came to an end after 45 appearances scoring five goals.
Gareth Bale joined London club Tottenham Hotspur on the 25 May 2007 after signing a four-year deal worth an initial £5 million and with a potential to rise to £10 million based on appearances and success.
It was at Spurs that Bale came to National consciousness, starting out as a Left back but ending up as one of the most dynamic Left wingers White Hart Lane has ever seen. Under the guidance of Harry Redknapp, Bale became a terror to opposition defenders. Blessed with a unique blend of pace, power, superb crossing and a thunderbolt of a shot, Bale was lighting up the Premier League with spectacular goals on a more regular basis.
He played at Spurs for six seasons, playing 203 games and scoring 55 times. During his time at Tottenham Hotspurs, he won the PFA Players’ ‘Player of the Year’ and ‘Young Player of the Year’, as well as the ‘Football Writers Player of the Year’. He became only the second player in history (after )to win all three awards in one season (2012-13).

On the back of an impressive 2012/2013 season that saw him rack up over 20 goals for Spurs, Real Madrid announced on 1st September 2013 that they had signed Bale for a World record fee of £85.3 million (€100 million). The figure smashed the previous record of £80 million (€94 million) paid by Real Madrid for the purchase of Cristiano Ronaldo from Manchester United.
Bale’s first season was hampered by a series of injuries – a reoccurring theme throughout his time in Spain. However, when fit, Bale remains a force to be reckoned with at the Santiago Bernabeu. His debut season ended in glory with him scoring against archrivals Barcelona in the final of 2014 Copa del Rey. He also scored in the UEFA Champions League Final against Athletico Madrid.
