It is a journey that has been driven by players like Gerald Everett, who is the team’s tight end. Gerald, whose journey to football did not start like that of most players, is now one of the most important players on the Rams roster and has been a notable figure in the team’s Super Bowl journey. Keep reading to learn more about Gerald Everett below.
Biography
Gerald Everett was born on the 25th of June, 1994 in Atlanta, Georgia. Growing up, he attended Columbia High School where, for the first three years of his high school sports career, he played basketball. It is possible that Gerald was considering a career in basketball but in the end, he switched his interest to football in his high school senior year to begin the journey to what is set to be a successful football career.
Although he had just one season of high school football on his resume, Gerald Everett was deemed a worthy player to gamble on and he was taken on by Hutchinson Community College, spending two years at the college before moving on to the University of Alabama in 2014. Unfortunately, due to corruption allegations, the football program at UAB was shut down and Gerald, again, had to transfer to the University of South Alabama where he finally completed his college football career. The instability was not great for a budding career but thankfully, Gerald’s talent was able to shine through. At South Alabama, where he played for just two years before he moved on to the NFL, he had a record 49 receptions and four touchdowns for 717 yards. It was a performance that earned him an invitation to the Senior Bowl and eventually, his ticket to the NFL.
NFL Career Profile
The journey to the NFL was not a smooth one for Gerald; with the lack of an extensive football career that dates back to his high school years to bank on, Gerald was a high-risk investment for a majority of teams. It took a performance at the Senior Bowl, attending the NFL combine and South Alabama’s Pro-day for him to establish himself as a worthy talent to bank on. ESPN Scouts and other scout organizations placed him to be the fourth best tight-end player in the drafts and he was picked by the Rams who were undergoing a change in approach in 2017.
Getting drafted came with its own little accolade for Gerald who became the first player to ever be drafted from the University of South Alabama. His first professional contract, which was signed on the 13th of June, 2017 was a four-year contract worth $6 million.
His freshman season, which for many, is an introduction into the world of the NFL started with a game against the Indianapolis Colts which the Rams won, with Gerald making his first reception in a professional game. It was a 39-yard pass. He finished his first professional season with a record of 16 receptions for 244 yards and 2 touchdowns. His second season, which has led to a Super Bowl appearance, finished with him dropping a regular season record of 33 receptions for 320 yards and 3 touchdowns.
Since he joined the Rams, Gerald Everett has played every single game for the LA-based team.
Gerald Everett’s Height, Weight, Body Stats
In high school, Gerald Everett once played basketball, a sport which is very focused on height, which he certainly does have. He has a height of 6 feet and 3 inches and an accompanying body weight of 108kg. During the Senior Bowl, he was judged to have the smallest hands for someone of his height. He has a hand size of 8 inches. His vertical jump is 37.5 inches. He has an arm length of 33 inches.
Being at the prime of his career, it goes without saying that the athlete is in amazing physical shape; which is to be expected if he wants to have a long and lasting career.
