Gina Grad was born on May 1, 1978, to Marlis and Steve Grad. Radio sure runs in her blood because her father also reads sports news at KNX 1070 radio in Los Angeles. Her mum is a long-time volunteer and co-chair of Greater Kansas City’s White Theatre.
Gina was raised in Overland Park Kansas City where she attended the Shawnee Mission South High School. Growing up, Gina Grad took dancing lessons and participated in high school plays.
In tandem with her Jewish ancestry, she also attended Hebrew school at Conservative Temple Ohev Shalom. Subsequently, she attended the University of Kansas and lived in New York briefly before settling in Los Angeles.
Gina Grad started out on 97.1FM KLSX where she worked as an overnight phone screener. Since then, Grad has launched, produced and hosted several shows and podcasts. She has also featured as a news presenter and a guest panellist on The Young Turks online news network.
After KLSX flipped formats, Grad started a short-lived podcast The Bobsled which she hosted alongside KLSX producer Randy Wang. Gina and Randy started another podcast The Pretty Good Podcast which aired for six years.
The Pretty Good Podcast featured interviews with various celebrities and experts, and candid conversations about both hosts’ personal lives which garnered over 1 million monthly downloads.
Getting up the ladder wasn’t quite easy for Grad as she did almost everything just to get noticed. She attended many auditions and failed but she kept pushing on.
