Biography
Hugh Grant was born Hugh John Mungo Grant, the second son of Fynvola Susan MacLean and Captain James Murray Grant, on the 9th of September 1960 in Hammersmith, London. His father was an officer in the Britsh Army who famously served in the infantry regiment of the Seaforth Highlanders while his mother was a state school teacher who taught Latin, French, and Music.
Grant received his primary school education at Hogarth Primary School in Chiswick and St. Peter’s Primary School in Hammersmith. He then went on to attend the independent preparatory school, Wetherby School before joining Latymer Upper School in Hammersmith on a scholarship. Here, he played rugby, cricket, and football. After graduating, Grant won the Galsworthy scholarship to study English at New College, Oxford. During his time there, he joined the Oxford University Dramatic Society and also got the chance to star in his first film, Privileged (1982) which was produced by the university’s film foundation.
After leaving school, Hugh Grant dabbled through a number of jobs before he was approached by a talent agent that had seen his performance in Privileged. Grant initially declined representation because he wanted to go back to school, but after giving some thought to it, he signed with the agent and went on to land a role in the movie The Bounty (1984) which he did not end up featuring in because he did not have an actors union card. To get one, Grant joined a local theatre and performed in numerous shows before going ahead to appear in television shows in 1985 and then in movies a few years later.
Hugh Grant Net Worth
According to various reliable sources, Hugh Grant has a net worth estimated to be around $80 million. He made his wealth through his career in the film industry, as both an actor and film producer. With more works to come his way, the actor will certainly be adding more millions to his net worth.
Family – Wife, Children
Hugh Grant’s opinion on the institution of marriage has been well documented by the tabloids in the past few years. The actor famously said that he was “not a massive believer in marriage,” and that the whole idea is “unromantic” because humans are not meant to be in long, faithful relationships.
Knowing his opinion on the matter, it did not come as a surprise when it was reported that he had fathered multiple children with two different women in the same period of time. Grant had his first child, a daughter named Tabitha, in September 2011 with a Chinese woman known as Tinglan Hong. Exactly a year later, he had his second child, a son named John Mungo Grant with a Swedish woman known as Anna Eberstein.
In 2013, Grant and Hong seemed to have gotten back together as they welcomed their second child together, a son named Felix Grant. Two years later, he reunited with Eberstein to have his fourth child, whose name is not known, in December 2015. The pair remained together, and in early 2018, they welcomed their third child together.
A few months after welcoming his fifth child, Hugh Grant appeared to have changed his mind on the issue of marriage as he and Eberstein got engaged. The two went ahead to exchange vows before close family members at the Chelsea registry office at the Old Town Hall on the Kings Road, which is reported to be just a short distance from their West London home. The ceremony was low-key and discreet and the duo appeared to have heavily underdressed for the occasion as it was reported that Eberstein, who works as a television producer and retail director of fashion brand Ace&Me, wore a short white skirt and a smart, fitted blue shirt and espadrilles while her husband wore a navy suit.
Prostitute Scandal
In June 1995, Hugh Grant was arrested by Los Angeles police officers for patronizing a prostitute and receiving oral sex in a public place. When arraigned in front of a judge, he pleaded no contest and was fined $1,180. He was further placed on two years’ summary probation and was ordered to complete an AIDS education program.
