Ian Gomez is a screen favorite known for his role in the film My Big Fat Greek Wedding (2002). A lot of people will probably remember him easily for his comedic TV works, which includes series-regular stints as Javier on Felicity as well as Andy on Cougar Town.

Bio

He was born on December 24, 1965, in New York City, United States of America. This makes him of American nationality while his ethnicity is mixed (Russian Jewish and Puerto Rican). Ian’s birth name is Ian Braque Gomez and he was born to professional arts parents; an artist father and a mother who dances. He is an alumnus of Chicago’s ImprovOlympic improvisation troupe. A few fellow members include Jon Favreau, Rachel Dratch, Pat Finn, Tim Meadows, and the late Chris Farley. Ian Gomez started his acting career in 1993 and his first job was a role in Excessive Force as Lucas. He also appeared in a TV titled Missing Persons as Pete, the Morgue Technician.

The next was portraying as an odd bellman in the movie Rookie of the Year. The New York native then relocated from Chicago in 1994 in pursuit of a career break. This came in 1995 when he landed the recurring role on The Drew Carey Show.

He played Larry Almada, a co-worker of Drew Carey’s character (also known as Drew Carey) at Winfred-Lounder on The Drew Carey Show from 1994–2005. As the fame he was looking for came, Gomez never stayed off the TV till this date. He featured in the TV show Married… with Children and Murphy Brown while the show was still running (between 1995 and 1996).

In 1997, he featured in Till There Was You as Scott. The same year, he appeared in Courting Courtney as Hank. In the year 1998 to 2002, on the WB show, Felicity, he was the character Javier Clemente Quintata. Gomez also played Mcllvaine in EDtv and worked with Carey in 1999 on the show Whose Line is it Anyway?

In 2002, Ian Gomez became a cast member in Alanis Morissette’s Hands Clean music video. In this same year, he also starred with the likes of Jeff Greene, Ted Danson, Hugh Mellon and Michael York in two episodes of the HBO series Curb Your Enthusiasm, where he performed as the “bald chef”, employed by Larry to cook in the restaurant he owned. He also played in Get A Clue as Mr. Orlando Walker.

Between 2005 and 2006 Ian Gomez appeared in ABC’s Jake in Progress which had as its other cast member John Stamos. He made an appearance in 2006 in the fourth episode of Lost: Every Man for Himself which is the third episode, and as a therapist in the April 2006 episode Here We Go Again of Reba.

He brought to life the character of Andy Torres from 2009–2015 in the ABC and later TBS comedy Cougar Town with fellow castmate  of The Drew Carey Show. In 2016, Gomez and his wife, Nia Vardalos, co-presented The Great American Baking Show, a revival of The Great Holiday Baking Show which has been from 2015 till present.

He also featured in Cuz-Bros in 2014 and The real O’Neal in 2016, the same year, he did Angel From Hell and Supergirl that ran from 2016 to 2017.

The handsome actor featured Fresh Off the Boat and in 2018 he featured in Living Biblically as Feather Gene. Ian Gomez doesn’t have a long girlfriend list as he has been known to be with only one woman, a famous actress-writer, Nia Vardalos of My Big Fat Greek Wedding fame. She was also the model for the “Ian Miller”(John Corbett) character in the same film which his wife wrote.

Beautiful Nia Vardalos made a guest appearance as the wife of his character on The Drew Carey Show: Strange Bedfellows (1997). She also featured in Connie and Carla, My Life in Ruins, I Hate Valentine’s Day and of course My Big Fat Greek Wedding.

The power couple got married on September 5, 1993, and from the look of things, they are not separating.

Since love requires a platter of sacrifice, Ian Gomez converted to Greek Orthodox Chruch upon marrying Vardalos which is reflected as a plot element in My Big Fat Greek Wedding. The two have a daughter who they adopted in 2008.
