Eric Mccormack’s Biography

Born April 18, 1963, Eric James McCormack was raised as the eldest among three siblings by his homemaker mother Doris and oil company financial analyst father, James Keith McCormack (died in 2008). Eric Mccormack got involved in theatre while attending Sir John A. Macdonald Collegiate Institute in Scarborough, Ontario.

Instead of sports, McCormack said he was a bit of an outsider and discovering theatre very early got him through. It was after he participated in high school productions of Godspell and Pippin that his determination to become an actor solidified and the concept of any other option vanished.

Coming out of high school in 1982, he enrolled at Ryerson University School of Theatre to improve in acting. He dropped out several months before graduation (1985) to start performing with the Stratford Shakespeare Festival in Stratford, Ontario where he stayed for five seasons.

After a couple of years playing minor roles in television series and films such as the Lonesome Dove: The Series and The Man Who Wouldn’t Die, McCormack landed his big break on the NBC sitcom Will & Grace in 1998. His casting as the neurotic gay lawyer, Will Truman who lives with his best female friend may have triggered the speculations over his sexuality.

Is Eric McCormack Gay In Real Life Or Has A Wife?

It is an established fact that Eric McCormack has been married to Janet Leigh Holden since 1997 and the couple has a son named Finnigan Holden McCormack who was born on July 1, 2002.

The actor and his family live in Los Angeles and Vancouver and McCormack holds a dual citizenship, US and Canada.

He had lived in California for the most part of his career, and when his breakthrough dropped in form of the Will & Grace, McCormack said it was simply right for him. He compared his character in the sitcom, besides the sexual orientation, to his real personality, adding that the gay issue wasn’t a big thing.

The show which debuted on September 21, 1998, and watched by over 8.6 million American viewers practically brought McCormack industrial recognitions and extensive earning power. By the seventh season, he was reportedly earning a whopping sum of $400,000 per episode, plus royalties from syndication.

With a loyal audience and strong reviews, McCormack got five Golden Globe nominations; Emmy Award nominations in 2000, 2001, 2003 and 2005 – one of which resulted in a win (2001).

Playing a woman-worshipping homosexual role in the show that ended on May 18, 2006, with 18 million viewers, but was revived for 2017-2018, did not change McCormack’s personal life as far as his 21-year marriage to his wife is concerned.

However, Eric McCormack is a supporter of same-sex marriage and participated in the march in Fresno, California, on May 30, 2009, after the nation’s Supreme Court upheld a ban on same-sex marriage as approved by voters in November by ballot Proposition 8.

Therefore, he has no qualms kissing his Will & Grace co-star Shawn Hayes during a ribbon cutting Ceremony in Los Angeles.

The famous actor has featured in tons of other movies and television such as The Lost World (1992); Exception to the Rule (1997); Holy Man (1998); Free Enterprise (1999); Here’s to Life! (2000); The Sisters (2005); Immigrants (2008); Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (2009); Pound Puppies (2010-2013); Barricade (2012); The Mysteries of Laura (2015); Travelers (2016-present)…etc.
