Scott Hoying’s Bio
Scott Hoying was born Scott Richard Hoying to Rick and Connie Hoying at Arlington Town in Texas City, USA. Rick and Connie welcomed their son, Scott on September 17, 1991. He has a sister, Lauren Hedrick who is married with a son, Beckham, whom Scott is very fond of. The lanky lyricist attended Martin High School in Texas, where he grew up. After graduation from high school, he went on to enroll in the University of Southern California.
His interest in music started at the tender age of 8. At this time, he was a passionate musical entertainer despite not having anyone with a connection to music related to him. He performed songs from time to time at high school and was very good at it. While in the university, he expanded his musical intelligence and prowess as he joined the SoCal VoCal group and was able to draw an Acapella crowd with his baritone voice. He also gained the confidence to perform on stage through his performances with SoCal VoCals.
Mid-way into college, Scott heard of auditions for “The Sing-Off” competition and desired to recreate his childhood dreams of becoming a top-notch musician. He then put together a group of musicians made up of his childhood friends: Mitchell Grassi, Kristin Maldonado, Avi Kaplan and Kevin Olusola. Together they formed what is now referred to as the Pentatonix. The group performed in the “The Sing-Off” competition and excelled brilliantly until the final stage. In the final stage, their sensational delivery of Eye of the Tiger won them the 3rd Season of the show in 2011.
Music Career With Pentatonix
In the following year, Scott and his band members with manager Madison Gates recorded and released their first EP title PTX Volume 1 in 2011. It climbed to the number 14 spot on the US Billboard 200 and reached number 5 on the digital charts. This album also went down in history for topping both the Holiday Album and Holiday Song charts since 1962.
He had his first tour in 2012 which was a huge success. All his concerts sold out in the 30 cities of America where he performed with the group. In subsequent years, the Pentatonix released other albums including Christmas EPs and holiday albums. Also, all his albums except a few were a huge success.
Scott Hoying has a YouTube Channel called Superfruit which he co-hosts with his best friend and band member Mitch Grassi. The prominent contents on the channel are American comedy and musicals. It is used to showcase humor-oriented vlogs as well as acapella or medleys covers in the Pentatonix style.
The Pentatonix leader has also performed the national anthem and God Bless America at home diversions for Texas Rangers, Dallas Cowboys and Dallas Mavericks. He has bagged prestigious awards such as YouTube Music Awards in the category of Response of the Years in 2013. In 2014, he won the Streamy Awards in the category of Best Cover Song for Daft Punk.
Alongside another YouTube Music Award, Scott Hoying joined legends to receive the prestigious Grammy awards twice with his group members in 2015 and 2016 for Best Arrangement, Instrumental or Acapella. He also won the Shorty Awards in 2015.
