Going by past events, the musical blessing that is Travis Greene wouldn’t have been as he kind of died not once but two times. His life is nothing short of a miracle and it’s no surprise he has dedicated it wholesomely to serving God.
His works in the gospel music genre are chart-toppers and award darlings but what makes him stand out is his fusion of music and a ministry of his own which he uses to further express his passion of spreading the gospel. He is currently the lead pastor of the Forward City Church in Columbia, South Carolina alongside his wife Dr. Jacqueline ‘Jackie’ Greene.
Who is Travis Greene?
The American gospel artist and pastor was born as a still-born on January 17, 1984, in Delaware and doctors had to resuscitate him. This wasn’t his only near-death experience as four years after his birth, he had to be resuscitated again after he fell from a four-storey building in Germany
He then lost his father in 1989 as a result of an aneurysm, thus, he was raised by his mother whose inclination to music and the gospel influenced Travis Greene right from the cradle. His mother was a minister and choir director and made it a point of duty to carry her family along.
Of course, Greene shared his mother’s passion for gospel music but waited until 2007 to become a recording artist in the gospel genre. His first offering was released in 2007 under Greenelight Records with the title – The More. This was followed by a studio album titled Stretching Out, released on June 8, 2010, under the stable of Pendulum Records. The album ushered him into Billboard’s Top Gospel Albums chart, at No. 27. Some of the songs also made it to the magazine’s Top Gospel Songs chart.
In 2015, Greene’s song Intentional peaked at No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Gospel Songs chart. The track came off his extended play of the same title released with RCA Inspiration – the EP took the No. 3 spot on the magazine’s Top Gospel Albums chart. His second studio album, The Hill, became another chart-topper when it dropped on October 30, 2015, and went straight to No. 1 on the Billboard Gospel charts.
Crossover: Live From Music City is Greene’s official third album released on February 2, 2017. The album debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Top Gospel Albums chart while its lead track You Waited commandeered the Hot Gospel Songs chart at No. 1.
Travis Greene has also performed at events including prestigious awards such as the 2017 Stellar Gospel Music Awards where he carted away seven trophies and at the Essence Music Festival, Trumpet Awards, among others. But he was heavily criticized for accepting to perform at President inaugural ball in 2017.
Beyond his successful music career, Travis Greene is also a minister and lead pastor at Forward City Church.
Who Is The Wife, Where is She From?
Greene found a perfect match in Dr. Jacqueline ‘Jackie’ Greene (née Gyamfi) at Georgia Southern University’s campus ministry (Spirit of Truth) where Jackie was an undergraduate student and Travis, a graduate of the school, was a constant visitor. They were introduced after Travis had ministered in a service and was socializing with the congregation. Their relationship didn’t pick up steam at once as it took Travis four years to get serious and in December 2011 they sealed their union in holy matrimony. They are parents to two lovely sons.
Asides co-pastoring Forward City Church with her husband, Jacqueline is also a dentist and an inspirational speaker committed to assisting women with the challenges they face in life. Her ancestry can be traced back to Ghana.
