Jade Mccarthy Biography
Not so much about Jade Mccarthy’s personal info like her background and early life is available online but what is obtainable revealed the talented anchor was born in Newton, Massachusett on July 20, 1980; grew up near Boston and attended Mount Holyoke College.
ESPN Career
McCarthy began her career with WGGB-TV before moving to WAFF, (an affiliate of WGGB-TV) located in Huntsville, Alabama. She then worked as a sports anchor at WCAU Philadelphia, winning numerous notable Sports and Emmy Awards.
In early 2010, she joined NESN as a part-time reporter and anchor for SportsDesk. After SportDesk went off the air, Jade began anchoring NESN Daily. She had to relocate from Philadelphia and subsequently leave NESN in 2011 when her husband got a new job.
After some months away from the TV, in 2012, McCarthy returned to doing what she knows how to do best; this time, with ESPN anchoring SportsCenter. After almost 5 years at ESPN, Jade was fired. She was one of the about 100 on-air personalities, laid off by the organization.
In a message to ESPN employees, the network’s president John Skipper related that the company’s decision was its way of repositioning for the future and not a mandate from parent company Disney, as many speculated. Other popular faces that were affected included Adam Caplan, Marc Stein, Andrew Brandt, Sara Walsh and lots more.
Dissatisfied with the network’s decision, some fans took social media to petition that ESPN rehires Jade alongside their favourite faces like Jaymee and Sara but the petition didn’t get enough support as any of them are yet to be re-hired.
Jade’s lay off came at the time she was expecting her third baby. Speaking for the first time after she was laid off, Jade MacCarthy tweeted that she’s proud of the time she spent with ESPN, the people she worked with and expressed that she’s looking up to having a bright career ahead.
McCarthy has been one of the brains behind ESPN’s biggest stories, according to her, one of her best times at ESPN was Aaron Hernandez’s murder allegation story.
There has been no news of Jade getting a new job yet, but she might be considering a new passion in animation and creating content for children, following in the footsteps of Martellus Bennett, who seems to have found something new for himself after retiring in March 2018.
Jade on 23rd March 2018, retweeted Bennett’s post where he stated that he decided to move on from the world of football into the fantastical and wondrous world of creativity and that he was beginning what he believes will be his life’s work.
He also tagged TheImaginationAgency, a multimedia production company known for creating fantastic contents for children to his tweet.
Whatever, McCarthy chooses to do after now, we do wish her all the best.
