He belongs to African-American ethnic background and holds American nationality. Starting his football career in high school, Clowney played the position of a running back as well as a defensive end because of his size. At the time he was 6 feet 3 inches and weighed 200 pounds. In his sophomore year, he became a permanent defensive end for his team; thus leading them to clinch the South California 4A Division II championship title.

In 2008, while South Pointe’s football players went to college, Clowney managed to help the team to advance to the state semi-finals where they lost to Northwestern. He had a total of 23 sacks and 144 tackles that season. He recorded great improvement in his senior season, having a record of 29.5 sacks, 162 tackles and 29 tackles for loss; as well as five touchdowns, six fumble recoveries, and eleven forced fumbles. He won the 2010 South Carolina Mr. Football Award. Jadeveon Clowney finished his high school career as the best player of his class.

While he was scouted by many top-notch universities; Clowney announced his commitment to the University of Carolina during his eighteenth birthday celebration in 2011. He later joined the South Carolina Gamecocks where he played college football for three seasons ending in 2013. While he was there, he recorded a total of 36 tackles in his freshman year and was named the SEC Freshman of the Year. In addition, he was named to Freshman All-American First-team and All-SEC second-team by the league of coaches.

He won the ESPY Award for best play hit following his outstanding performance during their game against the Michigan Wolverines in 2013. In addition, he was a finalist for the Lombardi Award, Heisman Trophy, and Bronko Nagurski Trophy. He equally won the 2012 AT&T All-American Player of the Year Award. Finishing his college career with the Gamecocks in 2013, Clowney ditched his senior year with the Gamecocks so he could join the 2014 NFL draft.

Professional Career Stats

Projected as a first-round pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, Jadeveon Clowney was selected by the Houston Texans during the draft. He was the first overall pick by the Texans and he penned down a four-year contract worth $22.272 million including a signing bonus of $14.518 million. Making his first appearance for the Texans on September 7 against Washington Redskins; Clowney couldn’t finish the game due to a knee injury he sustained in the second quarter of the game. He underwent surgery to repair his meniscus which ruled him out for the rest of his rookie season. He featured in just four games having seven tackles.

Clowney featured in thirteen games for the Texans in 2015 and he defended six passes, made 4.5 sacks and 40 tackles. The following year, he improved in his game; thus earning a slot on the All-Pro First-team of 2016 and was named to the Pro Bowl. He was also placed number 49 on the NFL List of Top 100 Players of 2017. He was named to the Pro Bowl for the second time consecutively in 2017, but his knee surgery caused him to miss several games for the Texans that season.

The American football outside linebacker was born to Josenna Clowney and David Morgan. He was raised by his mother Josenna along with his maternal grandparents and her mother’s boyfriend Christopher Jones. Jadeveon’s mother has been working as a processing technician at the Frito-Lay plant situated in Charlotte, North Carolina, since 1994. His father was convicted in 1995 and was incarcerated for 11 years for robbing a check cashing business in Rock Hill. He was released in 2006 after which he reconciled with his son but the fact that he is convict has put a strain in their relationship till date.

While Jadeveon has been having a blossoming career, he is also successful in his love life. He has been in a romantic relationship with a lady named Najah Re. The couple met each other while at the University of Houston in 2012. There is no much information about Najah, she has preferred to keep their relationship under wraps to avoid media interference. Together they have a son named Jahlil Clowney; he was born in mid-October 2015.
