Some people are simply born with the Midas touch and the renowned CEO, entrepreneur and business tycoon, Jerry Jones is one of such people. After graduating from the university, he invested in oil exploration business Jones Oil and Land Lease and made it unbelievably successful.
With the proceeds from oil exploration business, he bought over the Dallas Cowboy football team and in no distant time turned it into a money-making machine. His father insurance company where he worked as the administrative Vice President was not left out of his success story.

Jerry Wayne Jones Sr. popularly known as Jerry Jones was born on the 13th day of October 1942 to J.W. “Pat” Jones (his father) who owned an insurance company. Jerry was brought up in North Little Rock, Arkansas where his father owned two branches of Pat’s supermarket in the Rose city neighborhood of North Little Rock. His Zodiac sign is Libra and he is of American nationality.
Jerry’s early education was accomplished at North Little Rock High School in Arkansas where he played in the school’s football team as a running back. From North Little Rock High School he proceeded to the University of Arkansas through a well-deserved football scholarship from the university. In the University of Arkansas football team, he functioned as a co-captain and starting guard. Jerry played alongside teammates like Jimmy Johnson and Glen Ray Hines. Under the supervision of the renowned Hall of Fame coach Frank Broyles, the University of Arkansas’ football team won the 1964 National Championship.
After his university education in 1965, Jerry joined the Modern Security Life of Springfield which is his father’s insurance company. He worked at the insurance company in his capacity as the Administrative Vice President. It is important to note that in 1970, Jerry bagged his master’s degree in business. Even when he had the opportunity to purchase the AFL team San Diego Chargers, he declined the offer in order to be able to complete his masters.
After his master’s degree, he engaged in several unproductive business projects but was not discouraged by the numerous business failures he encountered and eventually, he started investing in oil and gas through an oil and gas exploration business in Arkansas named Jones Oil and Land Lease.
His foray into the field of oil and gas eventually proved successful beyond his wildest imagination. His enormous success with Jones Oil and Land Lease made it possible for him to buy the Cowboys on February 25th, 1989 for the price of $140 million. After successfully acquiring the football team from H.R. “Bum” Bright, he made some radical changes which included sacking the only coach in the history of the Cowboy team, Tom Landry and installing his old teammate Jimmy Johnson In his place.
Jerry also sacked Tex Schramm who was the longtime general manager of the team and personally assumed full responsibility for football matters. The leadership of the Cowboys under Jerry and Johnson was really rough especially at the initial stage, but Jerry eventually succeeded in building a team that is always reckoned to be the NFL favorite franchise of the 1990s
