Joe Ingles’ Biography

The Australian professional basketball player was named Joseph Howarth Ingles at birth on October 2, 1987, in Adelaide, Happy Valley, Australia, but is more famously known as Joe Ingles. His parents are Tim and Lynne Ingles and he had his college education at Lake Ginninderra College and the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) in Canberra where he is said to have played basketball for the AIS from 2005 to 2006. Upon graduation from AIS, he was a prized player sought by many basketball teams and even though he had always dreamt of playing for the Adelaide 36ers, he was dissuaded from signing with his dream club when they spelled his name in error on the contract papers. Hence he shifted interest to Melbourne South Dragons.

Career – Professional Basketball

Joe Ingles started his professional basketball career with the Melbourne South Dragon of the National Basketball league on March 17, 2006. He made his debut for the Dragons at age 18 and made league history by being the first Australian to score up to 29 points and due to his subsequent outstanding performances, he received the NBL Rookie of the Year Award.

In his next season, he played 30 games and recorded an average score of 15.4 points, 6.3 rebounds and 4.9 assists in each game played. In the 2008 season, Joe Ingles played in all 38 games; his points, rebounds, and assist per game was 14.5, 5.0 and 3.7 respectively. Ingles also led his team to the minor premiership where he received the All-NBL Third Team Honors and eventually ended his career with the Melbourne South Dragon after his third season at the club as it stopped its operations due to a financial crisis.

The basketball player then proceeded to play for the CB Granda in Spain for a season after which he transferred to FC Barcelona on a three years contract and at the expiration of the contract, Ingles moved to Israel and signed with the Israeli Club Maccabi, Tel Aviv, where he led the club under the leadership of the team coach David Blatt to win the Euroleague Championship in 2013/2014 season, he ended his career with the Maccabi shortly after that season.

Joe Ingles’ basketball career will not be complete without making reference to his national team career which he started with the Olympic debut for his national team in the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympic Games where he recorded 11 points, 2 rebounds and 1 assist in their 116–85 defeat to the United States. After two years, he went for the 2010 FIBA World Championship where his points, rebounds, and assists were 10.3, 3.0 and 2.2 respectively in 6 games played. He has also played for the Australian Boomers in the 2012 London Olympics and played another national team basketball at the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup, where in 6 games played, he recorded 11.4 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 3.4 assists.

The NBA

Having played his fair share in the national team, the Australian basketball player entered the NBA league in 2014 when the Utah Jazz signed him on to their team. He played his first game in the match against the Houston Rockets who defeated them. Ingle scored for the first time in a match against the Dallas Mavericks even though his team lost the game. His season-high score of 18 points was also achieved in a defeat match with the Minnesota Timberwolves. He recorded another career high point of 20 in the match against the Memphis Grizzlies that was yet another defeat for his team.

In 2017, the player renewed his contract with his team to cover the 2017/2018 season and it proved to be a better season for both him and his club as they landed several wins like their victory match against the Charlotte Hornets, Los Angeles Clippers, Dallas Mavericks and so on. During the season, Joe Igles also recorded a career-high point of 27 in his team’s winning match against the Houston Rockets.

Joe Ingles Family – Wife & Children

The high profile basketball player is married to his heartthrob Renae whom he is said to have been in a relationship with for almost a decade before it finally translated to another level in 2015 when they became husband and wife. Like her husband, Ranae Ingles is also an athlete who played professional netball for the Australian national team and played in the ANZ Championship in addition to Suncorp Super Netball for the Adelaide Thunderbirds and Melbourne Vixen.

In order to be with her husband and make time for a family, Ranae retired from professional netball in January 2016 and moved from Australia to American to be with Ingles with who she had twin children; a boy named Jacob and girl named Milla. However, Ranae got an irresistible offer to go back to Melbourne and play netball which she accepted revealing that although she had retired, she still felt incomplete without playing netball. She is back to Australia as an active player but she is on her toes managing her time between her family and her career.
