On the 19th of August 1963 in Cypress, California, John Stamos cried his first cry as he was delivered to the family of William Stamos and Loretta Philips. Theirs was an average family as his father, William, was a restaurateur while his mother, Loretta, was a model and housewife. His ethnicity is white, however, he is of mixed descent (English and Irish on his mother’s side and Greek on his father’s). His family’s surname “Stamos” is actually a coinage from the Greek root name “Stamotopoulos”. He was not the only child born to his parent, even though he is the only male child in the family. His other two siblings are his younger sisters – Alaina and Janeen Stamos – both teachers.

John’s early life revolved mostly around his father’s business and when it was time for high school, he attended John F. Kennedy High School, where his flair for entertainment led him to join the school band. After high school, he made to enrol at Cypress College but would drop out to concentrate on becoming an actor – which turned out to be a genius move.

John Stamos landed his first acting gig almost immediately he set out to pursue a career in the entertainment industry in 1982. He made the television debut with the role of Blackie Parrish in the long-running TV series General Hospital. In what seemed like a twist of luck, the original intent for his role was that it would appear on only five episodes of the show, but the writers of the series were handed an uphill task when his interpretation and delivery of the character caused a frenzy among lovers and fans of the show.

This made it impossible for the producers to retire his character for fear of losing their viewership base and so, there was a tweak to the original script and his character was retained. In fact, his acting was so good in the series that it earned him his first Emmy nomination in 1984.

At the beginning of his acting career, it was all small screen roles for John Stamos and he utilized them to proper effect. He landed his first major role as a lead actor with the 1984 CBS sitcom Dreams for which he earned positive reviews, however, his best was yet to come. John Stamos’ portrayal of Jesse Katsopolis in the 1987 ABC TV show Full House was all he needed to sell his brand and motion to Hollywood that he has arrived. The show was his major breakthrough in entertainment and it ran for eight seasons – between 1987 and 1995.

Stamos got married to a pregnant McHugh in February 2018 after the couple had announced in December 2017 that their first child was on the way.
