Even though Jordy Nelson has said he sees himself as being more of a farmer than an American football player, no one is going to remember him for driving a tractor or rounding up a herd. He will, however, be remembered for being one of the best wide receivers in the NFL and for helping the Green Bay Packers win Super Bowl XLV.
Biography (Age)
Nelson was born Jordy Ray Nelson to Kim and Alan Nelson on May 31, 1985, in Manhattan, Kansas. He was raised in Riley, Kansas where his parents who are fourth-generation Swedish immigrants, own and operate a farm that has been in their family ever since Nelson’s great-great-grandfather came to America.
As a child, Nelson exhibited extraordinary athletic abilities, winning individual and team recognition in track & field, basketball, and football. He went on to attend Riley County High School where he continued to shine in all three sports even though he had set his mind on becoming a professional footballer.
After graduating high school, Jordy Nelson enrolled at Kansas State University where he got the opportunity to play under the legendary Wildcats coach Bill Snyder. He began his college football career as a walk-on and was first moved to play the defensive back position before later playing the wide receiver position. His freshman year and the beginning of the sophomore season were ones to forget until Nelson was able to start contributing to his team’s games, recording a number of notable statistics.
Fast forward to his senior year when Nelson grew into one of the nation’s best wide receivers. By the end of that season, he had recorded 122 catches for 1,606 yards and 11 touchdowns. He was further recognized with a finalist position for the Biletnikoff Award and consensus All-American honors.
In the 2008 NFL Draft, Jordy Nelson was selected by the Green Bay Packers in the second round with the 36th overall pick and the rest became history.
Injury History and Analysis
Jordy Nelson’s battle with injuries began in his college years when he suffered a posterior cruciate ligament injury in 2006. After entering the NFL in 2008, he suffered a strain to his medial collateral ligament which kept him out of three games. He quickly recovered and managed to stay clear of injury for four years, until he began having hamstring and knee issues.
On the 24th of October, 2012, Nelson was sidelined for one game due to a thigh hamstring sprain. A few weeks later, on the 4th of November, 2012, he suffered a sprain to his right ankle and then on the 2nd of December, 2012, he suffered another thigh hamstring strain. All these injuries culminated in him missing four games and most of the two games in which he suffered those injuries.
In August 2013, Jordy Nelson had arthroscopic surgery for an unspecified knee injury. He went on to miss preseason but, recovered fully to participate in week 1. A year later, in August 2014, Nelson suffered another thigh hamstring strain that ensured he again missed the preseason. In the 2015 offseason, he underwent surgery for a left hip impingement which healed in time for him to return to training camp. Luck was however not on his side as he tore his right anterior cruciate ligament in the team’s second preseason game and was sidelined for the entire season, including the following 2016 preseason.
Since that long lay off, his next injuries were a chest rib fracture on the 8th of January, 2017, and a left shoulder injury on the 23rd of December, 2017.

Jordy Nelson is married to the love of his life, Emily Nelson (nee Rothlisberger) a former college basketball star who now works as a kindergarten teacher at Fort Howard Elementary School in Green Bay.
The couple got married in 2007 after having dated for a very long time; since the sixth grade to be exact. According to Nelson, the duo have known each other all their lives as they grew up in the same town in Kansas and attended the same schools from kindergarten. The first time they began seeing each other was in the first year of middle school but that did not last as they broke up a year later. A few years later, however, in their freshman year of high school, Nelson gave it a second go and the rest became history.
