As a teenager, Joss Stone literally came from nowhere to take the entertainment industry by storm. Bio
The multitalented entertainer was born as Joscelyn Eve Stoker in Dover, Kent, England on the 11th day of April 1987. She came as the third child of Richard Stoker (father) who owns and runs a fruit and nut business and Wendy Skillin (mother) who worked as her manager for a few years. The English songbird was brought up in Devon alongside her three siblings namely; Harry, Daniel and Lucy.
Joss Stone attended Uffculme Comprehensive School located in Uffculme, Devon, where she made her debut public appearance with a cover version of Reet Petite, Jackie Wilson’s 1957 song. Unfortunately, she had to drop out of school with only three GCSE qualifications at the age of sixteen due to dyslexia. According to the emerging artist at the time, dyslexia does not mean that she is stupid, it only means that she is more artistic than academic.
She landed a deal with S-Curve chief executive officer Steve Greenberg in 2002 when she left home for New York City in pursuit of a career in entertainment. Her debut album titled The Soul Sessions was released the next year. The album was a hit and made the top 40 in the U.S. Billboard Chart and top five in the United Kingdom. Her subsequent works have garnered even more applaud for her.
