Joyner started out his career as G-storm when he started rapping at the age of ten. Inspired by the works of , Nas, The Notorious B.I.G, and he would later make his first billboard music with the latter.
He took on rapping as a craft and later started a group called Film Skool Rejekts. At the time, Joyner was working with his uncle and they released a mixtape called Workprint: The Greatest Mixtape of All Time within the first year of establishing the group. The group released their mixtape in 2007, then, Joyner went with the stage name, Future Joyner and released his first mixtape under the stage name in 2011. He, however, had to drop it when the rapper, Future got famous. In order to carve a unique identity for himself, Joyner thought it wise to drop the “Future” from his stage name and go simply as Joyner Lucas.
