Young quarterback, Jared Goff, became the first quarterback to lead his team — the Los Angeles Rams to a Super Bowl appearance in 2019 after almost two decades. This remarkable achievement has made him one of the most recognizable quarterbacks in the league, with interests from both the media and a growing fanbase of LA Rams supporters.
As a result, Jared Goff has become a man worth learning about, and we do that below, covering many details about the quarterback’s life. From his playing career to his family and life as an entrepreneur, take a look at everything worth learning about Jared Goff.
Jared Goff’s Early Life
Goff was born and named Jared Thomas Goff on the 14th of October, 1994, in Novato, California as the second of two Nancy and Jerry Goff’s children. He was also raised in his birthplace. From a young age, Goff actively played several sports — baseball, football, and soccer. However, it was not until he enrolled at Marin Catholic High School in Kentfield, California, that he began to focus mainly on America’s favorite sport.
As a part of his high school’s football team for three seasons, Jared Goff completed 477 of 767 passes in a completion rate of 62.2% for 7,687 yards. He further managed 93 touchdowns with 18 interceptions as his side kept an overall record of 39–4 on their way to one North Coast Section crown and three MCAL championships.
His College Career — Stats and Accomplishments
After completing his high school, Goff was sought after by several college programs from around the United States. He, however, chose to stay in the sunshine state to attend his father’s alma mater, University of California, Berkeley.
As a true freshman in 2013, Goff was named starting quarterback for his school’s season opener, becoming the first true freshman to do so in Berkely’s history. He went on to start all his team’s twelve games that season, setting school single-season records in various categories, including passing yards, yardage gained, passes completed, and passes attempted even though the team finished with an abysmal record of 1–11.
In his second season, Jared Goff continued to show improvement in his game as he once again set new school records while helping his team achieve a better 5–7 record. As a junior, Goff propelled his team to its first winning season as they finished with a 7–5 record while he earned first-team All-Pac-12 honors.
After that season, Goff announced he was forgoing the final year of college to enter the draft. In his three-year college football career, he completed 977 of 1,569 passes for 12,220 passing yards with 96 touchdowns and 30 interceptions before joining the Los Angeles Rams, who selected him with the first overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft.
Jared Goff’s NFL Career and How He Became a Star
Since joining the NFL in 2016, Jared Goff has played more than 50 games, starting all of them. A part of the franchise’s transition to younger players, Jared led the team to a postseason appearance in his second season after a dismal rookie season.
In his second NFL season, Goff was named in the Pro Bowl after leading his team to an 11-5 record and an appearance in the playoffs. He took things further in the third season when he helped the LA Rams to their first Super Bowl appearance in 19 years.
Although the Rams lost the Super Bowl to the New England Patriots, Jared Goff helped the team to a first-place finish in the NFC Championship, as well as secured another place in the Pro Bowl.
He signed a four year $134 million contract with the Rams in 2019, with $110 million guaranteed, a figure that set the NFL record for guaranteed money.
Since joining the NFL, he has set several records, including the NFL record for most completed passes in a single game, and the Rams’ records for most pass attempts in a single match and highest QBR in a single season.
Who are Jared Goff’s Family Members?
Jared Goff has a very close relationship with his family, specifically his mother, Nancy, who accompanies her son on several trips and sister Lauren. His sister is a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley, and has, in the past, been mistaken to be her brother’s girlfriend.
Goff’s father, Jerry, who also attended Berkeley like his son, was a professional athlete. But unlike his son, he played baseball instead of football. Jerry, who played primarily as a catcher, was a third-round selection by the Seattle Mariners in the 1986 Major League Baseball Draft, where he was selected with the 63rd overall pick.
He went on to play for other teams such as The Montreal Expos, Pittsburgh Pirates, and Houston Astros in both the minors and majors before calling time on his career to become a firefighter in Novato, California.
Goff is also a Businessman
Being a professional football player can be time-consuming, but Jared Goff has carved off time to pursue his entrepreneurial interests. One of them is his clothing line, JG16, which he launched in the summer of 2019.
The clothing line is part of his attempt at branding himself, following in the footsteps of megastars like Tom Brady and Patrick Mahomes. The clothing line features several articles of clothing such as hoodies, t-shirts, tank tops, hats, and several more, for both adults and children.
