The first woman to anchor PGA Tour coverage, Kelly Tilghman is one of the biggest names in sports broadcasting. She is a media personality who has become famous for her work on The Golf Channel. The very talented broadcaster has been with The Golf Channel since it began and remained there for many years before finally parting ways in 2018.
While she is mostly known for the many years she has spent in front of the Camera as a broadcaster, Kelly has also been a professional golfer for some time before switching to broadcasting. Her years as a pro golfer has given her a greater depth in her job with the Golf Channel which in turn made her a delight to follow.
Kelly Tilghman – Biography
Kelly Tilghman was born on August 6, 1989, in North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. It was here that she was brought up as the only girl in a family of five children of which she was also the oldest.
Tilghman was raised by her parents, Phil and Kathryn Tilghman. Apart from the involvement of both her parents in golf, her father served as the mayor of North Myrtle Beach, a position he held for 14 years, while he was also a businessman. Her mother had a career in media sales and was also a professional shag dancer who has been inducted into the dance’s National Hall of Fame.
Her love for golf is something that has been a part of her life since she was a little girl as it is the sport that her family is into. She was raised mostly on the Gator Hole Golf Course which belonged to her family for more than two decades, stretching from 1980 to 2002. Her dad would drive her around the golf course as she was growing.
With that, she was already prepared a long time even before she decided that she was going to get involved in the sport. What is even more, is that Melvin Hemphill who was her grandfather was also a coach in the same sport. There are other members of the family including Kathryn Hemphill who was her great aunt and her mother who also played golf at some level.
Kelly Tilghman would sneak out with her brothers to go and play until it got dark. But more than even golf, she also loved basketball when she was still growing up and she also played football. However, she would still return to golf which she described as somewhat of a lonely sport because she was encouraged by her father who believed that was where her talent was.
Tilghman displayed so much talent as she played that she was later given a scholarship to Duke University, where she continued to play. However, she was easily distracted from the sport but soon found her way back. She obtained a Bachelor’s of Arts in Political Science and History from the university when she graduated.
By that time, she was already tired of golf and so she later got different jobs including as an assistant JV basketball coach and at McCormick Ranch Golf Club.
She later went back to golf again but left even though there were many who were willing to put money on her. Her rise to fame began in 1995 when she started working with The Golf Channel and continued until 2018

When it comes to her relationship life and sexual orientation, Kelly has always kept her lips tight. Nonetheless, Kelly Tilghman has not been spared of many rumors regarding her sexual orientation. The rumor that has sustained for a very long time is that the beautiful media personality may as well be gay.

Her marriage has been blessed with a daughter whose name is given as Ryan. She was born in 2012.
