Biography
Ken Block was born Kenneth Block on the 21st of November, 1967, in Long Beach, California. Very little is known about his childhood as the names of his parents and details about his life before becoming a rally driver are not known. A few publications have however written that he attended Orange Glen High School and then Palomar College.
In 2005, Block joined Vermont SportsCar team to begin his national rallying career. He was given a 2005 Subaru WRX STi which he used to compete in his first-ever rallying event, the Sno*Drift in Michigan. In this race, he managed a seventh-place overall finish and a fifth-place finish in the Group N class. Block went on to secure five top-five finishes in the 2005 rally season and placed an overall third place in the Group A class and fourth overall in the Rally America National Championship, which earned him the Rally America Rookie of the Year award.
The following year, Block competed in his first-ever X Games rally event at X Games XII where he won Bronze by finishing third. At the 2006 Rally America National Championship, he finished second overall, as the wider public began to take notice of his outstanding driving ability. Block kept up his performances in 2007, managing 19 podium finishes and 8 overall victories in rally events across the globe.
