Despite winning the star prize, his wife abandoned him just after he won, justifying the act by saying that money is not everything. This may also have contributed to the country singer’s venture into a state of depression which in turn affected his mental health. Read on to find out all about Kevin Skinner in this interesting article about the talented singer.
Kevin Skinner’s Biography
Skinner was born on 25 February 1974 in Graves McCracken County in Kentucky as Patrick Kevin Skinner. He grew up with three siblings, Jennifer, Rodney, and Michael. Right from childhood, he has always been interested in music and singing. He began to play the guitar and started writing his own songs when he was 12 years old. It is no news that he gets inspired regularly by his environment in Kentucky, a state popular for country music.
His father, Joe Skinner, was also a musician and a great lover of music. This is apparently how Kevin came about his love of music. He has a very cordial and happy relationship with his older brother who is also his only known sibling.
Kevin’s love for music led him to participate in the popular American Talent show where he performed Garth Brooks’ song, “If Tomorrow Never Comes” and got a lot of fans and votes from the audience. Leveraging on the massive love which he got on the show, he made his way to the finale episode of the talent show. He is noted to have said that he was sure to win because his father had been there to support him through it all and it turned out to be just like he said.
He was awarded the star prize of $1 million which he requested should be paid to him in 40 years annuity. This means that he will get $25,000 every year for 40 years. This justified the fact that money wasn’t his only source of inspiration for joining the competition. Unfortunately, his wife may have thought otherwise when she decided to leave him shortly after he had been named the winner of the grand talent show.
Also accompanying the star prize of $1million, he was allowed to perform his own show in Las Vegas. As a musician, he was very happy to meet the crowd and for this alone, Kevin Skinner was very grateful that he had won the competition which helped boost his career.
He produced his first album titled it “Long Ride” which was released on 17 March 2010 – this date didn’t just fall on the memorial of Saint Patrick’s Day by chance, it was a deliberate act by Kevin because he shares the name with the saint. In 2011, he released another album with the title “Kevin Skinner: Live and Unplugged”.
Kevin is also known to engage in charity works in his community. He is of the opinion that people should never go into music with the money as their only source of motivation. He credits his parents for imbibing good virtues in him such as modesty – he claims that this is the source for his true happiness.
