The internet is truly the gold mine of the 21st century, however, only a lucky few have discovered the tools required to harness it. KSI is one of this privileged few who have, from the comfort of their own homes, turned their fortunes around.
Better known by his online alias “KSIOlajideBT” or simply K.S.I, he is a British YouTube personality, video game commentator, rapper, actor and comedian. Riding on his YouTube fame, KSI has effectively taken his musical career to the next level. KSI branched out into “rapping” around the same time the Sidemen formed. His debut EP titled Keep Up was released in 2016, topping the UK R&B Albums Chart.
Biography
KSI was born Olajide William “JJ” Olatunji Jr. on June 19, 1993, in Watford England. He is of Nigerian descent. His parents Jide and Yinka Olatunji weren’t pleased with his decision to quit school and pursue a social media career. Both his parents and brother have featured in various videos on his channel. He created his YouTube channel in July 2009 and by December 2012, he had reached his first million subscribers. His videos usually consist of gaming videos (particularly FIFA), vulgar, often sexual humour, pranks, comedy sketches and music videos.
Currently, over 17 million subscribers on his main YouTube channel makes his the 42nd most subscribed YouTube channel. He has accumulated over 3.5 billion views on his videos, that is much more than half the world’s total population! And as you know, these stats aren’t just for the sake of record-keeping. They translate into megabucks for the owner of the channel. For KSI, he amassed $4.5 million in 2015 placing him 5th on Forbes’ World’s Top-Earning YouTube Stars for 2015.
KSI and the Sidemen Group
He used to be part of the Ultimate Sidemen gaming YouTube group, which he formed on 19 October 2013 along with YouTubers Vikram Barn (Vikkstar123), Josh Bradley (Zerkaa), Tobi Brown (TBJZL), Simon Minter (miniminter), and Ethan Payne (Behzinga); they were joined a year later by Harold “Harry” Lewis (wroetoshaw).
However, things went south at some point and KSI left the group. He announced this via a tweet in August 2017, citing another member of Sidemen Ethan Payne, as his reason for leaving. Following this decision, KSI moved out of the Sidemen House in East London to Los Angeles California. This triggered a series of events which have been tagged “Sidemen War”. An array of diss tracks and insults were exchanged between KSI and his former Sidemen mates. By the end of all that drama, the diss tracks were so many that KSI compiled them into an EP titled “Disstracktions” which he released in September 2017.
You’d think the “2017 Sidemen War” would end after the release of that EP right? Well, it didn’t. The battle was taken to a whole new level when Joe Weller, a friend of the Sidemen, got involved in the feud. In fact, they’ve decided to settle it Anthony Joshua style, in a boxing ring! KSI and Joe Weller will go head-to-head in an official boxing bout on Saturday, February 03. The fight was announced at Upload 2016, a YouTube influencers’ event.
The fight has generated so much buzz with KSI nandJoe Weller using their various YouTube channels to promote it. This fact has got many wondering whether the feud was real, or just another ploy created by these YouTube entrepreneurs to make more money off their fans?
Controversy and Records
KSI was at the centre of a scandal in the wake of his actions at a Eurogamer event in 2012. Attendees of the event were allegedly sexually harassed, causing Microsoft to permanently sever all ties with the gamer and earning him a life ban from the Eurogamer event. Microsoft ended their Xbox One endorsement contract with him the following year.
He once held Guinness World Record title for the highest margin of victory against the computer on FIFA 13 when he hit 190 goals.
KSI lived in South East London with miniminter, Vikkstar123 and Zerkaa in the Sidemen House when he was still part of the group. He had also featured in many videos with all of the Sidemen.
KSI’s Brother and Girlfriend
KSI’s younger brother, Deji Olatunji, is also a YouTube personality better known as ComedyShortsGamer. Himself and his brother Deji ranked number one and two respectively on UK’s Most Influential YouTube Creators
At the moment KSI seems to be single. Money can’t buy love they say. Well, he hasn’t always been single. He was in a relationship with Seana Cuthbert, a fellow YouTube vlogger. She is known online by the pseudonym “Seanyyy”. The relationship ended after two years because Seanyyy felt starved of attention as KSI was too busy with his YouTube career and the other things he had going on in his life, he didn’t give her the attention she desired.
KSI’s Net worth and Cars
A highly successful social media career, an equally successful musical career, several endorsement deals coupled with a few movie features were all KSI needed to keep his net worth at an estimated $11 million.
A Lamborghini Aventador and a Porsche with his own personalized number plate “KSI FLY” are a few of this YouTube star’s luxurious assets.
Height
KSI is 5ft 10″ tall and weighs about 170 lbs. His chest circumference is 42 inches. His biceps are 16 inches while his waist size is 30 inches.
