LeSean McCoy’s Bio, How Old is He?
Also known as “Shady,” LeSean Kamel McCoy was born on July 12, 1988, in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. As a kid, McCoy had mood swings where at times he is happy but in the next second, he will be moody and possibly crying. His mother Daphne McCoy gave him the nickname “Shady” because of this and was this was ok with his father Ron McCoy.
The young kid began school at Bishop McDevitt High School in Harrisburg in 2002 through 2005 and it was here that he started playing football more actively and competitively. He won many awards and set new records in the school such that his high school number (20) was retired in 2012 making him the second Bishop McDevitt footballer whose number was retired after Ricky Watters.
LeSean McCoy kicked off his college career at the University of Pittsburg in Pennsylvania in 2007 having recovered from an ankle injury which threatened his career towards the end of his senior high school year. The fear of picking up another injury by the end of his college season became a factor which prompted his decision to enter the NFL after two years in college. Thus he got drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles in the 2nd draft (53rd overall) of the 2009 NFL Draft.
Professional Career
Shady’s contract with the eagles was the usual four-year one at the tune of $3.47 million with $1.72 million guaranteed. He made his professional debut in a game against the Kansas City Chiefs on September 27, 2009, and went on to start 3 successive games for his side.
By December 20, 2009, in a game against the San Francisco 49ers, the Pittsburgh Panther broke the all-time Eagles rookie rushing record previously set by Correll Buckhalter with 586 yards in 2001 with his 606 yards. This saw him being listed in the 2009 New York Daily News top ten rookies of 2009 as the fourth. All these were possible due to the Eagles starting running back Brian Westbrook being down with an ankle injury and when he was let go in the 2010 season, LeSean McCoy shined the more.
He finished the 2010 season with a listing in the top four in rushing yards with 207, 3 touchdowns, and a 2.8 attempt per first touchdown. It was also in this season that he broke the 1,000 rush yard barrier record.
In the 2011 season, LeSean made the 1st team All-Pro list, ended the season as the league’s fourth-leading rusher, won the FedEx Ground Player of the Year Award and finished the season with 1,309 rushing yards and a rushing touchdown in 12 games. With such an impressive performance, his contract was extended for five more years at the tune of $45 million with $20.765 million of that amount guaranteed. True to his nature, LeSean McCoy maintained an impressive performance till the end of the season becoming the Eagles’ all-time leading rusher with 6,792 yards from 6 seasons which was 2 seasons better than the 8 seasons it took previous record holders, Brian Westbrook and Steve Van Buren, to achieve such. By the beginning of the 2015 season, however, he was traded to the Buffalo Bills for linebacker Kiko Alonso.
LeSean McCoy joined the Buffalo’s for a $40 million five-year contract which he has gone well into. He, however, started off his first season with the Bills on a slow note owing to a nagging hamstring injury. Nevertheless, McCoy gradually picked up form. By 2016, he finished the season with 1,267 rushing yards on 234 carries and scored 13 rushing touchdowns.
In the 2017 season, he became the 30th NFL player to exceed 10,000 rushing yards and got named to his 6th Pro Bowl on December 19, 2017.
