Markieff Morris is a professional basketballer player in the National Basketball Association (NBA) who plays the position of Power forward. He got off to an impressive start in his professional career following his drafting in the 2011 NBA Draft as he earned himself a spot overtime as the team’s top starting forward. Since his drafting with the Phoenix Suns, Markie has kept an impressive playing record with a few lows due to injuries and some other reasons. Here, is more on his biography/career and family life.

Markieff Morris’ Bio

The NBA star was born a Virgo on the 2nd of September 1989 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania where he was also raised by his parents alongside his brothers.

Markieff Morris took to basketball quite early in life and began playing the sport competitively with his teammates in Prep Charter (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) and APEX Academy (Pennsauken, New Jersey). Following his impressive skills as a younger baller, Rivals.com considered him a four-star recruit just as he was also listed as No. 49 player and No.17 power forward in the entire nation in 2008.

After high school, he proceeded to the University of Kansas to study American studies beginning in the year 2008 through 2011 and at the same time play hoops for the Kansas Jayhawks men’s basketball team. Following his impressive balling abilities, Markieff Morris was picked a Fifth Team All-America by Fox Sports at the end of his junior season. He played in a total of 10 games out of which he started 43, from these, the Jayhawks enforcer recorded a total of 6.1 rebounds, 1.1 blocks and 13.6 points per game.

In the 2011 NBA Draft, Markie was selected by the Phoenix Suns as the 13th overall pick in the draft. He first signed a four-year rookie contract that kept him in the Suns till the 2014 season, after which he signed another multi-year contract extension with the Talking Stick Resort Arena team. Morris’ new contract was reportedly worth $32 million for a four-year term which put his average salary at $8 million.

Two seasons into his new contract, the Philadelphia born baller saw himself at the exit door of the Phoenix Suns; some reports have it that this was probably as a result of a misdemeanor he got himself in which didn’t go down well with the team’s management in addition to his average performance in the league at the time. Markieff with his brother and some others were accused of beating Erik Hood outside a high school basketball game in January 2015. He was however later of the accusation.

The Suns traded him on February 18, 2016, to the Washington Wizards to get Kris Humphries, DeJuan Blair and Georgios Papagiannis (a 2016 Top–9 protected first round draft pick). Markieff got back to an impressive form as he recorded a couple of career highs. The University of Kansas prodigy who seems to have a penchant for dedicating long playing time to a team was reported saying he would love to end his career with the Wizards. Perhaps if the team’s management deems him a good fit for their plans in the coming seasons, Markieff Morris will most likely see off his career with the D.C club side.

Markie’ career so far in the two teams he has played for has seen him with a total of 5.6 rebounds, .6 blocks and 11.9 points per game. The baller is very much still active in the league and with more playing time, he will probably increase his career stats.

Injury

Markieff Morris is one player who has had a relatively injury-free career, he has not been known to be prone to injuries and for the most part of his career, he has always been available to do his job for his team on the B-ball court. Nevertheless, he suffered a sports hernia in the later part of 2017 which resulted to his having a surgery to repair the injury. As a result of this, the baller was ruled out from NBA action on September 22, 2017, but he made a come back on March 13, 2018, in a loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves.
